3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
The palest and mildest tasting doppelbock
I’ve ever seen and tasted- even at 7.4% by vol.
Golden colored like a pilsner and even a typical
lagerish aroma. However, a strong malt presence and alcoholic
strength separates it from regular lagers.
Not a bad beer, but it doesn’t compare to doppelbocks
like Celebrator and Salvator.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bright golden body with visible, hazy yeast, moderate carbonation, and a flat-fading soapy white head. Aroma of sweet honey, sweet pale wort, maple and apple notes, plus a touch of alcohol and a nutty, buttery element. Medium sweetness, less so than anticipated, with low bitterness and some gentle alcoholic warmth. Texture is like warm, watery syrup. Not my thing.

2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20
Aroma is sickly sweet honeyish malt. Color is gold/yellow with a rapidily diminishing head. Flat and honey sweet. I don’t know if this is gone bad or if it’s as intended. It doesn’t taste infected, but it doesn’t taste like much else either except for the honey tinged maltiness.

2.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
Bottle. Vintage 1995 (best before) - 7.0%. Pours a brownish golden colour with a diminishing head. Aroma is oxydised. Sweet Madeira and notes of honey. Flavour is sweet with honey notes. Oxydised. Madeira again. Grassy notes as well. Finish is the same, but also has notes of alcohol. Overall an interesting try, but would like to try a fresh one. 26-09-09.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Hazy amber with a small off white head.
Sweet malt aroma. Sweet flavor of malt,
dark fruit and caramel. Much maltier than
expected given the relatively light color
of this doppelbock.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
This poured the color of apple juice. The flavor was a little hoppier than I expected and the body was somewhat light. A different approach to the style that is worth a try.

2.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Possibly a bad bottle. Poured flat. To many floaters for my taste. It's a black non-see through bottle so I couldn't tell. Alcohol smell was a little overpowering.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Read some prior reviews after seeing how light in color this is. Oakes says it's a European strong lager; okay, I can deal with that. It smells mildly fruity, like apples and pears. Not very carbonated, but very, very sweet. This posed a problem: it did get slighlty cloying (not as much as I would have thought considering the level of sweetness), but add more carbonation and it would have tasted like a sparkling fruit wine. I hate sparkling fruit wines. I liked this. The level of carbonation was okay. Mouthfeel light, which helped combat the sweetness. Finish not too thick. Alcohol not noticeable. Overall, very interesting.
