| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 23, 2009 This wandering minstrel reached Australia from Belgium via Denmark five years ago and languished in a corner of my beer rack as forlorn and forgotten as whatever hopeless CD my sister sent for Xmas that year. An unfair comparison, it turns out, for this Belgian ale has weathered the ravages of time better than LCD Soundsystem, Bloc Party, the Kaiser Chiefs or whoever else flickered briefly in 2005 and faded. After four years, Troubadour Blond had evolved/devolved into a swirling maelstrom of proteins adrift in a caramel-coloured universe. A sticky-sweet aroma spoke of gingered pears, toffee apples and fresh-mown hay. An oily customer. With any real hop character long since dissipated, the malt profile dominated - sticky toffee pudding with a late seasoning of clove to spice up the swallow. Very easy on the senses - more like the Carpenters than Bloc Party and nowhere near as fucking irritating as Kaiser Chiefs (Devils! Get off my Ipod and never again soil my earplugs with your naggingly catchy ear-candy.) Overall, this is a decent ale, undeservedly ignored. ( 33cl bottle courtesy of Papsoe - thanks buddy. Aroma has a lot of caramel malt and honey, light oranges. Flavor repeats with the caramel malts, now with orange marmalade, medium-sweet finish. Lighter palate for the style. A very simple, straightforward beer, but high quality all around and very balanced. I could drink this for hours. Overall, very good. Vaiz (181), Den Haag, Netherlands
