3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Doesn’t pour like a traditional stout - certainly not an imperial one - more like opaque red. Has a frothy off-white head. Aroma of roasted malt and chocolate. Taste of roasted malts, dark fruits, chocolate, little bit yeast and licorice. Medium carbonation. Full mouthfeel, but more in a ale-kinda way than like a more traditional imperial stout way. Bitter finish of malt and chocolate. Quite good, but more like a dark ale than what I would call an imperial stout, but certainly one I’d drink again.

Though it has a high ABV, you cannot tell. Nice coloring. Very drinkable, but overall not too eventful for me. A beer I would readily drink, but not actively search out.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
APPEARANCE: black beer, not pitch black though. Huge stable beige head.
NOSE: mostly burned malts, some chocolate.
TASTE: burned malts, caramel, lacks some ’strength’ in the taste, rather sweet, somewhat hoppy/bitter even...
Not really an imperial stout for me...

A - Dark garnet body with a massive 3 finger head that forms a middle mountain of curved mounds that last throughout the glass. Sticky 3D lacing is splattered allaround the glass. Good looking stout.
S - Clean chocolate, toasted sweet bread, coffee comes through with notes of caramelized toffee, sweet cream, and loads of chocolate.
T - Awesome dairy chocolate flavors, creamy, roasted malts, sweet with a spicy bitterness that wicks away most of the the sugary sweetness, roasted malts. Some bitter dark fruit, dried prunes and pears are the main fruit players while a chocolate covered banana flavor comes through at the end. Finishes with a grassy and roasted bitterness.
M - Full body, moderate creamy carbonation, lush and full feel with a dry finish.
Awesome stout here. Very creamy and decadent while keeping excellent balance. This reminds me of my wife’s Christmas hot cocoa. Very nice Impy stout. Decadent chocolate flavor with a robust and balancing roast. Pick this up if you see it.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Humongous beige head with blazing Belgian lace covers the black pour. Highly roasty, burnt bready aroma with spicy phenols reminiscent of peppery rye and liquorice. Alcohol vapours emanate mostly from the aroma and aftertaste. In mouth, the beer feels drier than it is due to its very marked roasted malt character. Pumpernickel toast and vegetal, gently fruity coffee notes are its main components. The hops remain mostly in a supporting, background role. I can’t say I’m very fond of that roast focus which feels a bit left alone. The ester profile is timid and the phenols+intense roast mixture does not captivate my tastebuds.

Bottle 75cl, a dark beer with good head. Nose is nice on dark chocolate and belgian yeast. Aroma is sweet on dark chocolate and dark coffee, sweet caramel, licorice, spices, light notes of red fruits, good bitterness. Finish has long roasted and brown bread notes, bit alcoholic like, good anyway.

Bought in Leuven. A pretty nice take on imperial stout - not too alcoholic in flavor or experience, even though it’s a big beer. Looks great with huge head. Has the classic i-stout flavors. Somehow a Belgian twist to it. Not quite as chewy/viscous/heavy as I like with this style, but definitely a fine beer. G/f liked this one too.
