Nose is malt, slight smoke, licorice, slight dark fruit. Taste is yeast, some soft fruits leading, smoke, toffee, a little chocolate, a little resin in the oddly bitter finish. Very thin for an imperial stout It has a funny taste profile for an imperial stout and is very forgettable.

Keg at the Earl of Essex - London. Pours deep red-brown with a creamy tan head. The nose holds lots of toasted brown bread, toffee, caramel. Big sweet flavor with more toffee, dried fruits, slight earthy bitterness. Medium I full bodied with fine to average carbonation. Lightly warming finish with sticky burnt sugars, more caramel, dried dark fruits. Simple.

Inky with large frothy tan head. Dark chocolate in the aroma, with some coffee, rye bread and a nutty character. The taste has lots of roasted meat, some coffee, dark fruits, cardboard, bread, molasses. Something seems off in the balance though. Full bodied and creamy but the disappointing taste detracts overall.

olio (8479) - Tampere, FINLAND - JAN 31, 2015
33 cl bottle.
Pours black color with a large off-white head. Ripe dark fruits and yeast on the nose, mild herbal notes and wood, grains and malts too, not your typical IS aroma. Sweet ripe fruits, caramel and mild toffee notes on the flavor, molasses, faint wooden notes and subtle hints of cocoa too. Medium carbonation. More of a Belgian Strong Ale than an IS. Decent but somewhat of a disappointment.
