4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Like the standard Magma, this pours a gorgeous deep fire orange colour with a large 3.5 finger off-white head. The smell is quite sweet and fruity - dried apricots, orange, pine, grassy notes and some nice strong malty aromas. The taste is really quite good - grapefruit, lightly sweetened lemon, lots of pine, bit of breadiness from the malts and the galaxy hops give it a more assertive bitterness and dryer finish than the regular Magma. Medium body, nice oily mouth coating. For my taste, this is how a IPA/DIPA should be - great balanced flavours, strong bitterness but not palate-wrecking hops.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Vintage bottle of three years old at Kulminator, cheers to Stéphanie for sharing. Very thick, towering, frothy, rocky, egg-white head, initially clear amber orange colour with fierce sparkling, hazy with deposit. The aroma has suffered less from cellaring than I had expected: a sweet exotic hop fragrance is still very much alive, with hints of ripe mango, orange, lychee, armagnac, biscuit, Grand Marnier, abbey cheese, whisky, apricot, jute, white pepper. Lively fruity onset, mango, lychee, kiwi, green banana, very elegant from the start, fizzy carbo but fitting well for a beer like this, supple caramelly malt sweet core, biscuity, evolving into a long, drying finish of aromatic, fruity hoppiness, with the lychee-, mango- and passion fruit-like notes of the Galaxy still unabated after three years though already turning a bit cheesy (unexpectedly of course), blending well with residual juicy maltiness, warming brandy-like alcohol and pleasantly bready yeast hints in the end. This was a wonderful beer, too bad I never had it in young condition, but even a three years of age it was so enjoyable that it makes my mouth water just reminiscing about it - though this may have something to do with Kulminator nostalgia as well...

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
75cl bottle shared with Mike & Simon F @ Chez Sophie, Shrewsbury. Pours hazy murky brownish orange with large off-white head. Big citrus orange aroma jumping out the glass, clearly massively hopped. Big hoppy taste with bucketloads of orange and tropical fruit with a touch of Belgian spice. Very good this, but the tripel yeast pips it to the post.
