330ml bottle from Les Crepes de Sophie, Shrewsbury. Not as good as I remember from a couple of years ago when a kind fellow at De Proef gave me a crate! Perhaps my palette’s matured a bit since then. Who knows. This pours a wotsits orange with a good simcoe aroma. Has an appealing tanginess but it’s orangey resinous qualities become a bit cloying and alcoholic towards the end.

Cold bottle, four months old, into a tulip. Dark orange / red, hazy, lightly sparkling, small foamy white head leaves dotted lacing. Smell is strong sickly rose water / turkish delight, tangerine. Body is medium, foamy, carbonation medium. Taste is malty in a way I associate with most Belgian beers, tangy dried fruits soaked in alcohol, cherry. It’s like a hoppy quad. Very Belgian. Decent.

Bottle from de Bierkoning. lightly hazy golden amber pour with nice big white head and lots of lacing. Aroma is really hoppy, nice intense tropical hop bouquet, lemony, notes of grapefruit, pineapple and litchi with a grassy twitch. Taste is hoppy, sweet tropical fruit flavor, nice chewy but not caramel maltiness, alcohol is not perceptible (or just barely). Palate is full bodied, med carbonation. Yum! A nice surprise.

Tap @ Kaisla, Helsinki. Pours a reddish, hale orange with a good-sized, stylish and thick, beige head. Aroma is fruity with hoppy and Belgian fruits. Grapefruit, lemon, peach, apricot. Taste is smooth, fairly sweet, resinous, pine, juniper. Some pale malts. Juniper throughout, a little bit disturbing the juniper in the finish. Ethanol and a bit of sour maltiness on the aftertaste. Fairly full, smooth, with low carbonation.

On tap at De Zandloper, Brugge, Belgium. An orangey/straw coloured pour with a medium white head on top. Sweet, bready, hoppy, tropical fruit aroma. Tastes sweet, hoppy, bready, malty, butterscotch and rich. Absolutely delicious, I drank so much of this in Brugge last week.
