Troubadour Magma is an amber colored beer with the bitterness of an American IPA but balanced with the fruitiness of a Belgian Triple. Enjoy the explosion of fruity aromas from the dry-hopping. -- A Triple IPA wich Czech bittering hops and Simcoe for Dry-hopping. Made by De Proef for Drie Musketeers, Ursel.

We all know this an IPA, not just a hoppy amber ale. Indeed it is a really great Belgian DIPA. Keep on drinking it. I love this brew. Probably because you don’t find too much good Belgian IPAs and here it is one. Or probably it’s just great by itself. Next time I will describe my impressions because for now I just want to enjoy it.

750 ml bottle. A hazy pale to medium amber beer, with a huge, frothy, lacing, virtually fully lasting off-white head. The aroma is moderately malty (cookies, caramel), moderately hoppy (grapefruit, apricot, pine neeldes, herbs), lightly yeasty (dough), with notes of exotic fruits, pepper, hint of banana. The flavor is heavily sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Medium to full body, velvety/syrupy texture, lively carbonation, long finish with moderate bitterness, moderately alcoholic. It slightly exceeds in sweetness, but I wouldn’t call it unbalanced. A bit sticky, but never palate scratching. Nice lacing and a lot of nuances in the nose. Thumbs up for this one.

Bottle, 33 cm, unclear orange with 1/2 a finger off white head. Aroma has notes of caramel, preach, passion fruit, citrus. Taste is heavy sweet malty with a fruity hoppy, lingering bitter finish, some astringency and a herbal note. Full bodied. Soft carbonation. Wellmade American-style DIPA with a discrete Begian touch.

Amber colored, dry, hoppy, orange taste. Appearance is great, nice head, but a little bit too normal to get a high rating.

Bottled 330ml (BZ, BB 12/2013)
Deep amber color, small steady white head. Herbal and spicey hoppy nose with hints of caramel. Medium-bodied. Front is more like Belgian strong ale: caramel, plum, bready notes. Then finishing with strong Simcoe notes and allaround bitterness and alcohol. Quite warming aftertaste. Solid De Proef -quality.

Bottled 330ml at The Holborn Whippet, Holborn, London. Gold with white head. This came over as really hoppy, heady, dry and bitter. Lasting on the palate. Really quite pleasant though heavy on the alcohol front.

Unremarkable IPA from Belgium. Contains the trademark Belgian high alcohol content without much else to make it stand out from the crowd.
