UPDATED: FEB 5, 2012 Bottled at home, approx. 4 years old. Very dark brown colored, small brown head. Malty nose, caramel, molasses, raisins, impressive. Sweet caramel malty flavor, some honey, raisins again. Sweet and somewhat dry finish, little bit of alcohol shining through. Very complex considered its relatively low ABV. This beer probably needs a few years of aging, but what you get in return is an excellent and very complex Belgian Strong ale.

Pours red brown with khaki head. The bottle says mild stout but it is a strong ale. The aroma is mostly dark fruit and roasted grain. The taste is smooth with a creamy feel, a lot of fruit, raspberry and a little cherry with a moderate to strong roast.

Poured from the bottle it has a dark brown color with a nice head. Aroma is roasted fruits, figs and some yeast. Taste was rich with caramel, nuts and malts. One of the better belgiums i’ve tried.

bottle, dark brown/red coloured with foamy white head. Smell: ripe fruits, some alcohol. Taste: woody, ripe fruits, some alcohol notes, not too bitter, nice touch of roasted malts, some sweetness. Good one!

At home in tulip. Dark brown, with red glow and big foamy brown head. Taste has a nice woody earthiness, some roasted malts, hints of whiskey, a bit of alcohol and a lot of hop. Body is ok, but a little high on the carbonation, a little softer would be nice. Still, a very nice, good-tasting beer!

11.2oz. bottle served in a snifter. Bottle conditioned. Poured a dark copper/brown Finger of fine bubble tan head. Slightly metallic aroma at the start. Fruity, yeasty aroma as it warmed along with a little black patent malt. Medium bodied and smooth. Very dry, some chocolate in the finish. Not much roasted barley character that you would expect in a stout. Not a lot of Belgian yeast character either. Didn’t do a whole lot for me.

UPDATED: JAN 8, 2012 I went back to my recycling bin twice to fetch this and attempt to drip whatever had gathered at the bottom into my glass. Yeah it’s good stuff. This is everything that I wish an aggressive belgian would be. All the aged pit fruits, raisins, tangy yeast, balanced acid and rum barrel you could ask for. It’s got this saturated, round intensity in it’s fullness of ingredients and flavor concentration. All that I have to compare it to is the one Westy 8 that I’ve ever tried, it’s not quite there, but close. Next time I’ll get a case instead of just one. Thanks so much Musketeers. 2011 11.2 oz. bottle.
