3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Shared a 33cl from Mi-Orge Mi-Houblon. Pours a dark brown colour with a nice tanned head. Aroma is coffee, yeast and caramel. Medium carbonation and creamy body. Flavour is a complex change between bitter and sweet with light acid and dry end. Overall, a nice and tasteful beer.

2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20
750ml bottle, pours a nearly black dark mahogany with a medium sized tan creamy head. Aroma and taste of roasted malt, dark chocolate, caramel, plums, muscovado and a hint of coffee. Very sweet with light bitterness, medium body and lively carbonation. I did not like this beer, itís too unbalanced and sweet.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
33cl bottle from CANBIF Fall 2013. Cloudy dark brown with a nice dark biege head. Lots of upfront malt character, somewhat roasted, with some raisins, bit of plum skin, bit of cola and chocolate, hints of ash, yeast and alcohol. Moderate+ carbonation and body, creamy, slightly sweet with a hint of lactose on the finish as it dries out a bit. Interesting beer that seems to blend a few styles.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
330ml bottle from Vanuxeem. After the lethal Triple IPA flavours of Magma the bar had been raised but I guess I wasnít expecting Troubadour to take this path with Obscura. It is excellent of course, swirling together Stout like malts and Brown Ale textures to produce roasted, bitter chocolate tastes and an alcoholic strength that commands you take time to savour. Great stuff then, as usual.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. Despite the RB classification, the label says íMild Stoutí, so we may have some style confusion here already. That said, pours a very very dark brown with a high, large-grained, lacy, sticky tan head. Nose is dubbel-like with brown sugar, dark corn syrup, and dark fruit notes. There is some stout-like smokiness, coffee, and chocolate on the tongue, and much less sweetness than the nose would indicate -- however, the fruity richness and candied overtones still makes a decent argument for abbey-style ale rather than stout. Itís kind of a bastard child of both in a way; it works, but itís somewhat misleading. Finish is long and clean; it carries its ABV well. A bit outside the box, but decent.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Brown murky. Really dark bready malty nose. Some syrup, a bit of herby greens, chocolate. Full bodied. The flavour really surprised me, wasnít expecting the salty licorice roastyness. Otherwise plummy sweet malts, balanced bitterness, smooth, nice. Interesting brew. Loads of flavours, thick body, slight oilyness. Warming up a bit, Iím discovering good roasty rubberyness in the aroma. This has a lot of everything.
