Bottle from BlackHearts&Sparrows. Great malty-easty character. Aromas of chocolate, caramel, dough, xmas-i spice. Taste is sweet and bitter, with very long length. Palate is creamy and full bodied. Dark brown, with a frothy head.

11.2 oz bottle Label has a man laughing and holding a glass of beer. Pours a nice head that falls into a thin layer and a nice lacing. Smell is very nice: dark, coffee flavors and dark fruit undertones with some spicyness. Taste is very smooth and refreshing, it doesn’t have the hard coffee flavors of a regular stout, but it has different flavors of nutmeg and dark fruit tones that are very good. It also has a strong pepper flavor due the higher alcohol content. Mouthfeel is very enjoyable and smooth. It floats down my throat very nicely. I really enjoyed this stout and without a doubt will have another one.

UPDATED: DEC 23, 2007 This beer smells terrific. It smells kind of nutty and sweet. The appearance bears a remarkable resemblance to Guinness, but with a slightly less foamy head. The flavour is sweet and nutty too, with a slightly bitter aftertaste, but tastefully so. The palate is not overly complex and well balanced, not tasting overly of alcohol, as some stronger beers are prone to do. Overall: Quality brew.

UPDATED: JAN 8, 2012 I went back to my recycling bin twice to fetch this and attempt to drip whatever had gathered at the bottom into my glass. Yeah it’s good stuff. This is everything that I wish an aggressive belgian would be. All the aged pit fruits, raisins, tangy yeast, balanced acid and rum barrel you could ask for. It’s got this saturated, round intensity in it’s fullness of ingredients and flavor concentration. All that I have to compare it to is the one Westy 8 that I’ve ever tried, it’s not quite there, but close. Next time I’ll get a case instead of just one. Thanks so much Musketeers. 2011 11.2 oz. bottle.

Bottle at Paters Vaetje, Antwerp. Very dark brown/cloudy with thick beige head. Dry malt aroma with choc and camp coffee. Some raisin. Nice choc and fruit in mouth with grainy dry finish. Bit of vinous in mouth. Really excellent beer, wonderful in mouth, just needs a bit more complexity.
