2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
(33 cl bottle; BBD: May 2nd 2013) Pours a slightly hazy amber with rich, white head. Good retention and lace. Aroma is dusty with notes of banana and a hint of caramel. Not that refreshingly appealing. Oily texture, light body with an astringent finish. Taste is lightly sour with spicy, peppery notes. A strange brew and not something that strikes me as particularly harmonic.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Appearance: cloudy orange with a bread crust head which fades with lace into a thin collar and unbroken layer of fluff. Swirls creamy with some bubbles and more lace.
Nose: yeasty dough in the back with spice, leather, and dusty bales of hay. Candied ginger and grains of paradise. Papaya and guava skins, banana peel, and essence of candied flower petals.
Palate: medium to medium-light weight – floats across the tongue. Banana underneath and in the back. Dry finish. Grain husks and baled straw with papaya and guava peel. Dry leather on top of the tongue – like a baseball glove. Flower petals and candied ginger in the breath.
Final Thoughts: darn good. Far better than I was expecting, label art notwithstanding. Pleasantly refreshing, I honestly wouldn’t change anything about The Musketeer – phenolic, funky, and fantastic.
