Bottle from Bier Tempel, Brussels. Deep black colour, decent head, some burgundy in the bottom of the glass. Full, complex taste, dark malts, mild marmite, bitter, herbal hop, some yeast spice. Good beer, I’m still not convinced this style really delivers though.

Aroma: complex roasted and burned notes, grassy hop, cacao beans, roasted hazelnuts. Taste: Sweet with light to moderate spicy bitterness. Slightly oily aftertaste with some yeasts, spice herbs, some dry fuits, some coffee. Alcohol is very light. Overall this looks like a belgian-style stout with beligan yeasts and grassy hops (what is slightly unusual for this style). Very good.

Bottle; pours dark amber with an off white head; aroma is sweet with hops, caramel, with some coffee and dark malt; taste is initially sweet with caramel and roasted malt; then becomes bitter with the hops and some citrus; finish is bitter with a hint of coffee; very good beer

Bottle from Hippo Beers. Dark brown body with a large beige head. Good lacing. Aroma of Coca-Cola, coffee grounds, fig and Marmite. Flavour of earthy hops, raisin, pine and plum. Quite boozy. Medium body with a smooth texture. Light fizz. An unusual, tasty beer.

Hazy dark brown with a decent beige head. Aroma is chocolate and roasted malt with some herbal hops. Taste similar, sweet caramel and lots of chocolate to roasted coffee/charcoal and a bitter dry spicy herbal finish with maybe a touch of pine. Bit of alcohol heat. Medium to full bodied. Not as strong in the hops and bitterness as some BIPAs but still very nice.

hohops (731) - Kent, ENGLAND - FEB 8, 2015
Appearance is very dark brown, pretty much opaque, a big, fluffy beige head which persists. Aroma- lots of hops, orange, marmalade, coffee, roast malt, fruity. Smells good. Taste- coffee, orange, milk chocolate, toast with marmalade, hints of burnt treacle, hops, pine, hint of lime juice, bitter finish. This is very good.

UPDATED: FEB 3, 2015 BOTTLE 33 CL. The aroma starts with black malts and coffee beans, but the hops push them out. The hop aroma is bright „German”, intense grassy, lemongrass, astringent unripe fruit. Some smelly soft cheese rind too (yeast?). The taste is right in the middle between a stout (roasty, light chocolate-like sweetness) and an IPA (hoppy) with a strong spicy and grassy bitterness. A Black IPA that stands a little apart - no american hops, and the yeast is not American either.
