3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Huge thanks to Ludo for sharing this one with us! So, 100% Belgian hops? This poured a dark brown-amber, nearly black body with a small beige head. It started off with a huge initial blast of herbal/fruity aroma hops, something which I didn’t expect... but it was gone very soon, leaving turning into a soft, malty, chocolatey aroma, which was ok, but less impressive. The same chocolate notes continue on into the taste, creamy, before ending with a strong, respectable herbal bitterness. Definitely a very good beer! I just wish what I’d had had more of that initial hop blast!

Dark brown colour, small head. Aroma roasted sunflower, dark malts, hint of chocolate. Nice bitterness, very American beer as for a belgian one. Nice!

750ml bottle 11/20/14 (Binny’s Naperville)-40° in Shaker-Pours black with ruby tints with a big off white head. Aroma of malt, caramel, and hops. Taste of the same with a little anise and chocolate coming in. This medium bodied brew is not like American IPA’s but still tasty.

330 ml bottle at the Beerstore, Thessaloniki. Black color with big beige head. Roasted malt, coffee, light chocolate, hoppy aroma. Taste is more bitter hoppy than the aroma, sweet, light roasted malty again, sweet chocolate and light coffee. Almost medium body, oily, soft carbonation.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Bottle from Craft Wine Store 061114. This is a boozy beer and the alcohol is the first thing that you notice. Also some chocolate in the flavour. Initial pour leads to a big foam cloud.

Another great beer from Troubadour! A Black IPA, dark, hoppy and well balanced. Drinking it with a great view on the river IJ, @ Delirium Amsterdam.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Luxury beer on 75 cl bottles and if I didn’t miss out on anything, this must be Belgium’s first ’black IPA’. Sticky, yellowish white, stable head, very dark bronze colour approaching black. Aroma of coffee grounds, bitter chocolate, tobacco, whisky, nutmeg, candied dates, pepper, leather, citrus peel, parsley. Deep and thick but smooth chocolatey maltiness, powdery mouthfeel, candied fruits, oily texture, complex spiciness, finishing in a beautiful array of mouth-filling coffee bitterness, peppery and citrussy hoppiness and whisky-like, warming alcohol adding to the complexity. So far the best Musketeers beer I have tasted - but I’m still looking for those special Magma editions.
