4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle, 33cl, Geers. Pours dark brown to black. Bit hazy. Shiny beige head. Definitely a "C-hop" nose, wrong westcoast? Grapefruit, but also EU hop character with more herbal aroma’s. Faintly roasted. Round balanced body, mostly bitter, slick palate. Excellent if they pulled this off with only Belgian hop. They could easily transform this recipe into one of the best all Belgian IPA’s. As a black IPA I like De La Senne’s atempt a bit more.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
I am not a fan of too strong burned malt or smoke flavors. This one is very good. There is burned smokiness but it is wel balanced. It has some chocolate notes and finishes with a long dry hoppy bitter taste. Nice!

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Super dark IPA, which is not really IPA-style. Dark coulor with thick tainted head that is rather drifty. Nose is quite hoppy. Taste is caramel and faint chocolate and anis. Bitter and hoppy taste, but not quite enough for a standard IPA.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
330 ml bottle @ Malja, Kuopio. Pours a dark brown, almost black colour with a white lacy head. Aroma of roasted malts, wet earth, chocolate and leather. Flavour of roasted malts, leather, chocolate, biscuit, some alcohol and raisins. Quite a lot of caramel sweetness. Mediun bodied, smooth mouthfeel and a lingering bitter, roasty finish. Not as fresh as I hope, and a bit too sweet.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Aroma is strong hoppy. Dark brown colour. Taste is heavily hoppy with standard american flavour profile. Initially balancing caramel/chocolate is present. Mid-way maltiness disappears and only heavy bitterness remains. Finish is hoppy bitter with nice roastiness present. Very nice black IPA example.
