There is not much smell to this, considering it’s billed as a West Coast beer. Not quite black, but dark enough brown to be close. Good taste, but again it’s certainly not a West Coast IPA. Good beer, but not what I was expecting.

Bottle 0,75 ltr: Very black brew with an smooth bitter taste and some hints of roasted malts and coffee. Not as bitter as its American counterparts.

Draught @ Black Door, Helsinki

Pours pitch black with a large foamy head. Aroma of roasty malts, hints of spices, ripe fruits and syrup. Taste is quite malty with notes of spices, roastiness and ripe fruity hops, hints of syrup. Finish is sticky and sweetish with notes of spices. Quite spicy and syrupy black IPA.

Draught at Black Door, Helsinki. Colour is almost black with small brownish white head. Aromas and flavours are chocolate, hops and roasted malts.

Draught at tuulensuu, tampere. Black color, smooth white head staying. Temptating aroma of chocolate, coffee, some hops and sweetness. Strong and nice taste of chocolate, roasty, coffee, hops, smoky. Nice aftertaste.

Draught at Blackdoor in Helsinki. Black in color with a thick creamy tanned head. Roasted notes in aroma. Leaves a nice lacing on the glass. Chocolate and licorice also in aroma. A bit sweet in flavor, like milk chocolate sweetness at first. Quite heavy salty licorice in taste as well. A bit of some roasted and burnt elements in aftertaste also. On the border of beeing too sweet. Some maltyness and licorice again in finish.

Draught @ Gastropub Tuulensuu, Tampere.
Pours deep dark red color with a medium-sized frothy head. Aroma of hops, roasted malts, fruits, some toffee and mild licorice notes. Flavour of toasted malts, hops, fruits, caramel, dark berries and some very faint vegetable notes. Medium CO2, bitter malty palate with a decent hoppy kick, maybe a tad too sweet taste though. Decent.

troubadour is a funny brewery, it almost seems that they use the same base beer for all their brews .. . deep brown black .. really impressive head, lacing also .. . light roast, almost no bitterness from the hops .. sticky mouth .. . below average beer .. . . punching basketballs for fun?

On tap at Beer Temple. Dark cola brown body with puffy head. Nose is malty and caramel. Taste is chocolate, malts and caramel. Creamy texture. Pretty good.
