Deep brown pour. Very thick sustaining head with a ton of lacing. Earthy citrusy hop aroma. Thick mouthfeel with a lot if sweetness in the malt balanced out with the same earthy citrusy hop flavor. Very good. Belgian yeast strain is not noticeable.

330 ml fles @home. Gekregen op mijn 34ste trouwdag. Dit is wel een erg zware black IPA. Geen doordringende alcohol smaak.

Bottle. Pours dark brown with a large tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, earthy notes, chocolate, citrus, bit of alcohol. Taste: coffee, roasted malts, hops, hints of tropical fruit, light sparkling carbonation that quickly disappears in the mouth and smoothens. Fairly bitter with a long lingering warming coffee/cocao/citrus finish. Love it!

5oz taster on tap at Brass Tap. A black IPA?!!? Awww yes.... Clear very dark red color, kind of brown from a distance. Thin tan head, leaves good thicker lace. Great chocolate cocoa notes, some earthiness. Something like cookies. Moderate to bigger bitter taste, light to moderate sweet. Smooth, lighter carbonation, kinda slick, but finishes lightly dry. Some dark fruit flavors. Very lightly spicy. Nice, tasty stuff to try. Impressive belgian black IPA.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
(Drinking date: 23 February 2014) Very dark brown colour, with a good layer of goodlooking foam. Smells like metal and a bit of roasted malts and coffee, and a little bit of hops. Not very special aroma, bit dull. I expected a lot more hops and roasted malts. Taste is bitter, but also fresh. Burned malts in the taste, and also coffee. The taste is much better than the aroma. The beer leaves a nice bitter aftertaste, and it also ’burns’ in the mouth and leaves a ’warm’ feeling in the mouth, due to the alcohol. The carbonation is exactly right, just as the mouthfeel. Overall this beer is good, but there is nothing special about it. Not really extreme or something like that. That’s why it gets the total score of 3.7

On tap at Pegasus, Copenhagen. Pours dark brown with a beautiful beige foam. Nose is full of roasted malts, coffee, vanilla and liqourice. Taste is citrus, dried dark fruits, some sweet caramel. Carbonation is medium and makes for a rather refreshing beer the complexity taken in consideration. The sour and bitter notes are perfectly balanced.

dense aroma containing nice spicy/peppery hops, port, booze, licorice, candy... sweet and very heavy bitterness that holds the great warming finish in an iron grip... heavy beer, complemented by fresh hops....
