I am not a fan of too strong burned malt or smoke flavors. This one is very good. There is burned smokiness but it is wel balanced. It has some chocolate notes and finishes with a long dry hoppy bitter taste. Nice!

Body of yeasty roastedness, with a touch of coffee and cacao. With some nice bitter hops than provide for some extra fruitiness. High on alcohol, but that itsn’t noticable. Good beer.

Not overwhelming. Why is Belgium trying to imitate the West Coast? Weak black IPA, left wanting in almost all categories.

Bottle. Black color with a medium thin off-white head. Lacing. Aroma of licorice, roasted malt and hops. Sweet and bitter taste. Bitter finish. A bit oily feel.

henkjanwiegers (118) - NETHERLANDS - JUL 3, 2014
Pours a cola-brown color with a firm, creamy head. It has an aroma of roasted malts and hops. I like what I see. Surprisingly low on carbonation. Roasted malts, but not the mocca kind. Tastes like toasted bread and grains, followed by a nice bitter taste of hops. Coffee bitter in the finish, filled with hoppy goodness. Unexpected but very enjoyable beer from Troubadour.

Murky appearance. Aroma is dirty - don’t know any other way to describe it! Taste is a little lactic (milky), with some mild black malt roast and hops. Finish is a bitter tang. Overall, decent but far from a beer I would look for again.

Bottle. Pours unclear brown with a lasting tan creamy medium head. Aroma is earthy hops, spruce, grass, nutty, butterscotch, dark bread, toffee, grapefruit and coffee. Taste is near moderate sweet and bitter. Body is near medium, texture is mild smooth, carbonation is moderate+. Finishes bitter, herbal hoppy and somewhat messy.

Bottled, thanks to Ajen for sharing. Black appearance, small head. Nose of lots of hops and roasted malts. Very bitter flavor, combined with licorice and malts. Strongly confirms my aversion of the style, totally not my thing.
