3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Not black so much as very dark brown, with caramel highlights. Dank resinous hop nose like the fridge at a homebrew shop, with some sweet dark-caramel malts and notes of anise, herb and espresso. Both bitter and sweet taste with flavors of dark sugar, espresso and herbal hop-bitterness. Avoids the fruit of both American IPAs and some Belgian yeasts, going for roast and spicy-herbal hopping; has loads of character yet still winds up a bit muddled.
From a large bottle shared at the Metafoor café in Leuven.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Aroma of roasted malts, caramel, chocolate, coffee, some hops. Flavour is roasty, a bit hoppy, with some sweetness and bitterness in the finish. Definitely leans towards Black as opposed to IPA. Which is not a bad thing for this brew.

Drank with Masum in Kandinsky 26-3-2014. Instantly liked this beer. One of the best beers available in mainstream beer pubs (in the Netherlands). Too bad it was on substitute draft. Great mix between IPA and an awesome stout (mostly the last one). Smells IPA like, fresh. Taste bitter, rich, chocolate. I’m not really good at this describing stuff haha, but it’s a really good beer!

Brown, small off white head. Aroma has fresh hops, somewhat citrussy. Bitter taste, full bodied, malty, with some chocolate in it. Nice combi of dark beer and IPA, hop aromas and bitterness. Bitter finish, good lacing.

Pours brown to black with a thick beige head. Smell of cocoa, earthy, pine, some spicyness (?) a lot of carafa input. Taste quite roasted which follows with a sweetness combined with some nice hop bitterness, super high drinkability for the 9.2%, very easy going, but not something super off the charts, I expected some belgian yeasts, they were not there, and the hop profile is quite simple, some spicyness and a short but well giving bitterness. Medium mouthfeel, champagne bubbles.

330 ml fles @home. Gekregen op mijn 34ste trouwdag. Dit is wel een erg zware black IPA. Geen doordringende alcohol smaak.
