COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Hoppin’ Mad Trout is brewed as an India Pale Ale. It has a smooth, toasted malt flavor dominated by hops. A distinct flowery aroma and a clean, dry finish round out this ale.

THIS IS NOT AN IPA! Very mellow and malty. Cookie malt. Trout River brewers seem to like the bland side.

Re-rate (18-Jul-04 6-5-7-4-14=3.6): Lightly toasty malt aroma with decent hoppiness. Clear golden blond with decent white head that recedes to a strong cover with excellent lacing. Toasty and malty with decent balancing bitterness and light herbal hop flavour. Medium body and nice smooth mouthfeel with good carbonation. On tap at the Vermont Brewers Festival. Note they had this listed as an American Pale Ale, not an IPA, though it still drinks more like a Golden Ale.

Original Rating (31-May-04 - 6-3-4-2-9=2.4): Rather hoppy aroma. Hazy amber colour with thin white head and little carbonation. Hops do not carry through to the flavour. This like a watery amber ale. Bottle.

Pours a darker golden color with a thin, white, lasting head. Aroma is mildly hoppy, but mostly rubbing alcohol. Flavor is just horrid, with barely detectable hops, a macro blandness, alcohol, and plastic. Average mouthfeel. To Trout River: Shut down. Please, do us all a favor, and just stop making beer.

Hazy orange color with a large white head.Plastic hop aroma, mild hop charcater if you want to call it that, that leads into a nutty charcater??? This brewery is in shambles.

Hazy golden body with an off-white head that explodes out of the bottle. Aroma is lemon, light flowery. Taste is medium sweet, floral, some lemon tartness. Finishes lemon. Watery medium body. They can call it an IPA all they want, but it doesn't seem like one to me.

Nobody told me this was an IPA. Hard to figure what it was by the name. Fizzy head goes to nothing fast. Cloudy, unfiltered appearance. Light amber. A little on the spicy side but not overly hoppy. Drinkable, but nothing to write home about.

UPDATED: JUL 21, 2003 re-Re-rate, 3rd bottle flushed How many of you have had to chuck 5/6ths of a 6-pack. This tastes like they bottled the rinsate from washing out the tanks. How many do I have to rate before I qualify for the drain pour (I suggest toilet flush) category. 2nd bottle even worse, I can tell difference - Busch is better. In a blind taste test I don't know if I could differentiate this from Busch. My problem is that I have 5 more at 1.25 a pop to get rid of.

Hoppy aroma, decent fuggles? hop flavor with decent malt texture. Litte hop aftertaste for an IPA. Decent.

Doughy yeasty nose. Pale orange yellow color. Funny flavor, toasty metallic light molasses. Thin and fizzy finish. Not that enjoyable. Now I'm hoppin mad, I've got 3 left in the fridge.
