2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 MartinT (6934) - Montreal, Quebec, - JUL 19, 2009My Bottom Line:
This strangely fruity Imperial Stout attempt has lots of roasted, burnt notes that clash with a rising tartness that itself doesn’t get along with the prevalent caramel malt.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sheet of foam covers the reddish brown(?!).
-This is not your typical Imperial Stout, but then again I don’t think Trout River tries to emulate any styles.
-Alcohol doesn’t show much in the flavor profile, which is appreciated.
-The nose is quite floral and fruity; that yeast is doing overtime, but may be overworked as well...
On tap at the Vermont Brewers’ Fest.

(12 mai 2013)

I’ve been sitting on this for 8 months or so. The aroma is pure chocolate and dark roast coffee. The taste is datk espresso and cocoa rounded out by a healthy dose of hops. For a plain imp stout, this is pretty nice.
2 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 adamjackson (1317) - Canaan, New Hampshire, USA - MAY 19, 2012
Dark brown. To black. No head. Smell bit of smoked as caramel malts. Some dark malts but weak. No scent at all. Pretty weak. Taste - some sweet cane syrup. Some bit of cinnamon and barley flakes. Minor bit of hops. Roasted malts. Earthy and a small hint of dark fruits. 50/50 carbonation. Slick mouthfeel. Medium to light body. Lingering smokiness.

Pours a solid dark brown with faint garnet highlights when held to light. Smallish tan head shows decent retention with minimal lace. Smells of coffee and roast with a hint of caramel. Smells nice, but has a dry Irish kind of feel to it. Taste is roasty and coffee with a bit of butterscotch and some mild dark fruits and licorice in the finish. Creamy smooth mouthfeel, moderate level of carbonation with a medium body. This is a fairly tasty beer, but its a stretch to call this an Imperial Stout. Foreign Extra or American stout would have scored much higher.

Thanks Tucker for sending this one out . Brownish black in color with a small tan head. Not a ton of aromas off the top. Medium bodied beer. Understated stout flavors of chocolate, coffee, and toasty malt. Almost a blend of an IRS and sweet stout. Not too bad of a beer.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Tmoney99 (8844) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - JUN 15, 2011
Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured a dark brown color with a minimal frothy brown head that diminished with litttle lacing. Moderate roasted malt aroma. Medium sweet malt flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. This is a good beer, but average for style.

12oz Bottle thanks to JohnGalt1 for sharing. Pours out dark brown topped with a small sand head. Aroma was roast malts, chocolate, light fruit notes, and some vanilla. Taste was more of the chocolate and sweetness. This one was not much of a Imp Stout but I did like the label it was pretty cool.

Bottle thanks to Toby, these labels are cool at least. Pours a brown color with a tiny white head. The aroma is sweet cocoa, light chocolates. The flavor is thin, some chocolate, reminiscent of a 4% porter, light fruit. Decent.
