2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
(12 oz bottle, obtained in trade with Eyedrinkale, thanks Mike!) Upon pouring this beer, I was greeted by a slightly sour aroma, and given the rash of infected beers I’ve had lately, I was pissed. But the flavor shows no significant signs of spoilage, so I guess the nose is just on the sour side. The flavor is pretty simple, somewhat malty and lightly roasty, caramely but only mildly sweet, and moderately bitter. As stated, it’s not sour tasting, but breathing in though the mouth while taking a sip yields a slightly sour sensation. It’s fairly well balanced, but the overall flavor is kind of wimpy and isn’t especially enjoyable either. The body is a problem, being pretty thin and watery for the style, on par with the body of some lighter styles. Cloudy, with many small particles suspended in the beer. Deep amber color. Light tan head isn’t very impressive on the pour, but does manage to show pretty good retention, holding a thin layer throughout the session. Only a few streaks of lace are left on the glass, however.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
The colorful label references Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom. Foamy brown pour. It tastes of citrus and coffee, with some homebrew cellar funk and tang, cola, and walnuts. There is a yeasty, quasi-Belgian aroma. Pretty good.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle filched from my in-laws’ refrigerator after their trip to Vermont. Pours a pretty dark reddish-chestnut, hazy, especially at the bottom of the bottle. Small head. Nose is tea-like with notes of fruit and some esters. Some grain/metallic notes. Taste has some tannic qualities and all around meh-ness to it.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: JUL 6, 2013 $8.75 for the 6pack, which was bought from the Wal Mart in Barre, but technically, it’s actually located in Berlin. Go figure, I certainly had to. To undersized snifter, it pours a rusty prune light brown, showcasing an off-plaque fizzy head barely a fingernail in length. Tastes and smells of tree bark, walnuts, raspberry syrup, and amber malt extract. Not the best that Vermont has to offer, but also not the worst, either. Drinkable.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
12oz bottle. Pours a orangish honey color with a small whitish head. Aroma is sweet malt with a bisquity, doughy background. The taste is a chewy sweet malt with some floral and earthy flavors, and a touch of honey in the end. Mouthfeel is light and the flavors are well balanced, with a metalic tinge in the aftertaste.
