ABUSEDGOAT (1924), California, USA Aug 29, 2005 Um ok. Bottle from brewpub. And this isn’t a porter? Poured a black body, small head, aroma of roast, coffee and some nut. Roasty doughy taste with some nut. Fairly watery on the palate. This really looks like a Guinness, but when it’s right in the light it’s a very dark brown. Almost everyone seemed to hate this beer, but I didn’t see it as a huge letdown. I’m not gonna say it’s some amazing beer either, but it’s better than 2.5 range. To make fun of the commercial description - I WAS SHOCKED THAT THIS BEER WAS DARK AND SO EASY TO DRINK OMG. Lubiere (3324), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Oct 14, 2004 April 2004. Clear brown ale with a very light malt aroma, some soy sauce. Nutty taste with malts, light hops. Watery , too light, needs more malts??? IMtheOptimator (1122), Bethel, Connecticut, USA Oct 2, 2004 Brown with reddish hues when held to the light with a thin white head. The initial taste is nutty but it is quickly overpowered by a sour, stale taste. The body is thin and watery. Extremely disappointing. Newcastle is better, and I don’t believe a macrobrewery should ever beat out a micro. MartinT (4377), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Apr 29, 2004 Practical absence of aroma leaving way for little earthiness and nuttiness in the malt...Otherwise, near absence of malt flavors and true vapidity in the hops...This is an aqueous void for a brown ale... tiggmtl (4179), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Apr 27, 2004 Roasty aroma. Fairly dark brown, clear body with off-white head that diminishes to ring. Chocolate malt flavour. Some dark malt in finish. Medium-light mouthfeel without being watery. A fair brown ale. On tap at the brewpub.
