2.5 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20 fsquirrel29 (71) - Michigan, USA - JAN 28, 2013
Not my style of beer. Too many hops. Although the first taste was good. but then the after taste is all hops. But to their credit this is not as hoppy as an IPA.

Grey Cup 2012. On tap on a long Saturday. Dark copper. Fruity brown ale. Paired well with oysters at Smokeless Joe’s.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 HeistAlmighty (819) - Saint John, New Brunswick, CANADA - SEP 15, 2012
341ml bottle. Moderate, sticky head, good copper colour. Aroma is very malty, kind of tootsie roll, with some toffee, chocolate and some herbal and metallic. Taste is much like the aroma, though a bit more full. Body is light and crisp, very refreshing. Overall, quite enjoyable.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Metalchopz (1749) - Cantley, Quebec, CANADA - APR 4, 2012
Originally rated April 2005. This Ontario altbier pours a brown-amber colour with some decent lacing. Smells the roasted malts and a nice bouquet of purfum. Very light carbonation. The taste is malty with caramel and is also nutty. Slight bitterness in the middle. Creamy moutheel and smooth aftertaste. Good product from Magnotta Brewery, just like their IPA.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 JoeMcPhee (7622) - Toronto, ON, Ontario, CANADA - MAY 16, 2011
Served as Magnotta Altbier. Pale golden pour. The aroma is quite noble and floral with a bright herbal character and a bit of light floral character. Soft and a little bit of malt sweetness as well. A touch of hoppy character. The aroma has a bit of light honeyed sweetness along with some soft hoppy bitterness. Pretty nice stuff really.
3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 jimmay (807) - Waterloo, Ontario, CANADA - APR 2, 2011
341 ml bottle from the brewery. Pours bright copper in colour, with medium slightly off white head. Aroma and taste are slightly bitter, with biscuity malt dominating. Kind of like arrowroot. Not bad.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Lubiere (8243) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - FEB 10, 2011
A copper alt with a thin off white head. Sweetish sugar malt aroma, almost like light acidic seven up points. In mouth, a nutty grassy malt with light torrefied notes, herbal, light hopping, not bad. Hadn’t had this in a long time.
3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 probstblueribbon (2378) - Nepean, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 18, 2011
341 mL bottle from TBS, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass. 09JA11.
App.: Clear copper with a decent off-white head.
Aroma: Some decent, slightly bright and nutty toffee, a bit of burnt sugar, some green hop notes, a little brown sugar, a bit lacklustre, but OK.
Palate: Medium body and carbonation.
Flav.: Stark, earthy/nutty malts, some light peppery green hops, much less than the nose all around; dry with a little bitterness and a dry malt finish with some burnt sugar.
Not awful but not particularly inspiring. Not as enjoyable as some of their other brews.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Slepkov (28) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - JUN 20, 2010
Pours a beautifully clear deep copper, with a prolonged smooth and long-lasting lathery head. Very good to look at in the glass! On the nose, mostly caramel biscuits and just a little a little hops. Not particularly impressive, but no off smells either. The taste is mostly mineral and malt. A decent bitterness backs up the malt sweetness. Well balanced, but not particularly tasty. The mineral notes last a long time at the back and sides of the tongue. Fairly refreshing for such a malt-forward beer. Not bad at all, especially for the price.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 LudwigAS (1) - Ontario, CANADA - APR 29, 2010 does not count
I have had Uerige @ the brewery in Dusseldorf & this beer took me right back. Appearance was indiscernible from classic German Alt, nice aroma & taste, a little harsh on the palate, not as smooth as fresh from the brewery... Overall I was impressed, this is the first Alt I have seen in Canada and for being from Canada it did justice to the originals.
