COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
An ultra-premium all-malt and traditional German-style ale at 5% alc./vol. Deep copper to light brown colour with an aromatic focus on malt elements of fresh baked biscuits and toast. Malt initially dominates the palate with typical Altbier flavours of biscuits, followed by an intense yet pleasant hop bitterness. A slightly dry body and reduced ale fruitiness is achieved by extended deep-cold aging. Can be served with beef soups, spinach salad, roast chicken, pork tenderloin, falafel, chocolate cake, and smoked cheeses.

Not my style of beer. Too many hops. Although the first taste was good. but then the after taste is all hops. But to their credit this is not as hoppy as an IPA.

341ml bottle. pours a crystal clear dark copper with a two finger, slightly off-white head. Aroma is slightly fruity and metallic with notes of apple, caramel, and bread. Taste a balanced with a touch of roast, bread, and slight fruit. Short aftertaste. Medium body and carbonation. Pretty clean and crisp in the mouth. Overall not bad but could be better. Taste is ok but the aroma could be a bit bigger. Might buy again. Cheers!

More than the appearance, this one actually tastes a little coppery. Some crisp malt, some caramel. Comes together ok. Pours with good head and lacing, finish is a little bitter. Average carbonation. Bottle from brewery.

Grey Cup 2012. On tap on a long Saturday. Dark copper. Fruity brown ale. Paired well with oysters at Smokeless Joe’s.

341ml bottle. Moderate, sticky head, good copper colour. Aroma is very malty, kind of tootsie roll, with some toffee, chocolate and some herbal and metallic. Taste is much like the aroma, though a bit more full. Body is light and crisp, very refreshing. Overall, quite enjoyable.

Metalchopz (2117) - Cantley, Quebec, CANADA - APR 4, 2012
Originally rated April 2005. This Ontario altbier pours a brown-amber colour with some decent lacing. Smells the roasted malts and a nice bouquet of purfum. Very light carbonation. The taste is malty with caramel and is also nutty. Slight bitterness in the middle. Creamy moutheel and smooth aftertaste. Good product from Magnotta Brewery, just like their IPA.

Served as Magnotta Altbier. Pale golden pour. The aroma is quite noble and floral with a bright herbal character and a bit of light floral character. Soft and a little bit of malt sweetness as well. A touch of hoppy character. The aroma has a bit of light honeyed sweetness along with some soft hoppy bitterness. Pretty nice stuff really.

341 ml bottle from the brewery. Pours bright copper in colour, with medium slightly off white head. Aroma and taste are slightly bitter, with biscuity malt dominating. Kind of like arrowroot. Not bad.

A copper alt with a thin off white head. Sweetish sugar malt aroma, almost like light acidic seven up points. In mouth, a nutty grassy malt with light torrefied notes, herbal, light hopping, not bad. Hadn’t had this in a long time.

341 mL bottle from TBS, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass. 09JA11.

App.: Clear copper with a decent off-white head. Aroma: Some decent, slightly bright and nutty toffee, a bit of burnt sugar, some green hop notes, a little brown sugar, a bit lacklustre, but OK. Palate: Medium body and carbonation. Flav.: Stark, earthy/nutty malts, some light peppery green hops, much less than the nose all around; dry with a little bitterness and a dry malt finish with some burnt sugar.

Not awful but not particularly inspiring. Not as enjoyable as some of their other brews.
