Cask at the Union Tavern, London. Pours brown-black with a fine, tan foam cap. Tangy plastic, some gritty dirt. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Lots of earth, burnt plastic. The beer gets slightly better with time - or perhaps thatís my mouth acclimating to the horror. This beer is in very shabby condition. Quite unfortunate, as previous reviews suggest itís a nice beer. Iíll look to try this beer again.

Gravity pour at Beer Rebellion, Gipsy Hill. Pours a dark brown/black with a hint of red and an off white head. Aroma is milk choc, light coffee, a bit of charcoal. Medium body, mild carbonation. It starts with coffee, a touch of choc and ends with a lingering medicinal taste (pepto bismol). It doesn't ruin it but a smoother finish would have been preferable. OK. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On cask @ the Stockbridge Tap. Appearance - opaque black with a nicely proportioned head. Nose - roasty, chocolate, maybe nuts. Yes, itís definitely ticking the boxes for stout style. Taste - more of the same. Palate - medium bodied but generous for the session strength alcohol. Creamy and fairly elegant on the finish. Overall - yes, thatís a good stout.

Bottle from Coppers, Newcastle. This black beer pours with a large foamy brown head. It has chocolate and roasted flavours, slight tart red fruit and a nutty, dry, bitter finish.

Cask gravity at Beer Rebellion. It pours black with a thick tan head. The nose is roasty, toast, coffee grinds, cocoa and flat cola. The taste is rich, roasty, toast, pine, cocoa, liquorice, coffee, floral and potpourri with a dry, roasty finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. A rich, well-hopped stout. Good work.

Cask at the Sussex Arms, Twickenham Green, 13/04/13. Mid black with a thin bubbly tan head that retains well. Nose is roast malt, chocolate, brown sugars, a decent hop presence. Taste comprises dark malt - lightly roasted, bitter dark chocolate, touch of coffee, solid hop background. Medium bodied, fibe carbonation, dry finish with some hop bitterness. Overall a most decent hopped up stout!

On cask at Southampton Arms, Kentish Town, 3/2/13. Translucent red-black. Rim of brown bubbles. Weak aroma; sweet, choc, no roast, bit boring. Taste is sweet, light choc, milk & malt, light roast. There is some strong, sweet, aromatic spice to it (star anise & cinnamon). Light body for a stout. Not too great & not very drinkable, bit too sweet, but spice is interesting.
