BeerBelcher (930), Columbus, Ohio, USA Aug 17, 2007 This beer really struck me as past-its-prime Pilsner Urquell. It had a Saz-hops character that I associate with Pilsner Urquell and Czechvar, but had a stale cardboard-iness that was far from impressive.
I had this beer on tap at The ’Knick restaurant by the lake in Milwaukee. It came in branded glassware, which reminded me of a straight-walled vase and seemed poorly suited for its purpose. But it didn’t look like other beer glasses, so I guess from that perspective it was doing its job.
Color was yellow, not quite gold, and not brilliantly sparkling the way the beers mentioned above appear. It had a pleasant paile white head. Aroms was a Saz-ish "European lager" smell. Flavor was like I described about; cardboard-y past-its-prime Pilsner Urquell. This beer wasn’t skunky, but it was stale.
Mouthfeel was not impressive.
All-in-all this beer was OK, but not especially commendable. gws57 (1131), Saint Charles, Illinois, USA Aug 17, 2007 Had this one on draught in St. Charles, Illinois. Hazy yellow pour with a medium white head, citrusy nose of lemongrass, slightly sweet and balanced with a bit of that citrus again, finishes plain like all pilseners. I just don’t get what’s so good about this style. ilovedarkbeer (1326), Dallas, Texas, USA Aug 16, 2007 Smooth at first then sweet after. Unbalanced floral taste with a bitter finish. A pretty weak pils but can be refreshing. mar (1740), Rowlett, Texas, USA Aug 12, 2007 very sweet smell when it first got to me. the taste was better than i was expecting and i’d definitely buy this beer again if i needed to. DYCSoccer17 (2187), Davis, California, USA Aug 9, 2007 12 ounce bottle from a 6 pack purchased at BevMo in Natomas, CA. Aroma is lightly grassy, lightly sweet with some hay-like notes. Maybe a little fermented corn in there, too. Not bad. Pale, straw-colored body that is mildly hazy with a pretty frothy white head that is long lasting. Lightly floral, sweet start, which becomes rather bland and swampy in the middle. Light citrus flavor to finish. Lacks hops and crispness. Not refreshing, which is what I need in a pils. GreatLibations (1440), Last Supper, Arizona, USA Aug 6, 2007 Pours a slightly creamy pale yellow color w/ a medum sized, semi creamy froth. Aroma is slightly lemony w/ musty grasses. Medum nectar w/ ample yet soft residual effers. A moderate malty backbone supports a semi fruity brew w/ pleasant citrus rind overtones and only slightly musty. The finish is bittered nicely. thedm (3833), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Aug 1, 2007 This bottled brew from a restaurant poured a small sized head of white colored bubbles that were mostly lasting and left behind a transparent typically carbonated and a good lacing. . The crisp mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish. The excellent pilsener flavor contained notes of malt hops and crisp. Delicious and one I would certainly buy again. Seahandler (11), San Diego, California, USA Jul 29, 2007 On tap. Great glassware, like a kolsch glass on steroids. Aroma of wild flowers and green grass. Bright clarity with spritzy carbonation. It’s so nice to have a pilsner with fresh hops present (Berkley). Crisp finish with some sulfer. A spicy chicken taco with this one.
