jstraw (750), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jul 23, 2007 Cloudy gold with average head / Grain nose / Medium body, fat on the tongue with moderate carbonation and very muted hops / Sweet, with flavors of honey and grain / Smooth, creamy finish. Delirium (495), Santa Cruz, California, USA Jul 15, 2007 Draught. Pours golden with a smallish white head. Aroma is malty and grainy, slightly sweet, with some breadiness and a hint of hops. Flavor is malt and grain, with some bittering pils-type hops, especially towards the end. Nondescript but pretty well made. Kristatos (6), USA does not count Jul 9, 2007 Picked up 6-pack at BevMo after hearing good things, and despite my aversion to anything in green glass. Sure enough, some detectable mercaptan from light exposure (when will breweries stop using green bottles??) but other than that, this was a fine example of German Pilsener. Slight presence of DMS present in a cooked corn taste only added to the overall flavor profile. Very nice head, color and spicy hops. Would be great if not skunked, was still very good as it were. DarkElf (2681), La Jolla, California, USA Jul 1, 2007 06-Jun-07 (12 oz bottle: Purchased at BevMo in La Jolla, CA) A reasonably good facsimile of a true German pilsener, but lacking just a bit of hop character. Malty and grainy with a soft, lightly bitter and slightly grassy hop flavor for balance. The malt base does a nice impersonation of its German counterparts, something rare in American-brewed pilseners, and I think that deserves some accolades. With a bit more hop flavor and bitterness this would be a beautifully crafted, crisp pilsener, but as it is, the mild sweetness of the malt has a bit too much influence. But let’s be fair, given that Trumer Pils is only available to the SoCal consumers via BevMo’s internal intrastate storage and transportation, it’s quite possible, actually quite likely that the reduced hop character is simply an issue of storage and handling. Light hop aroma sits behind the malty nose. Dark-straw color is tarnished ever so slightly by a touch of haze. Small in initial size, the white head retreats to a thin ring, but leaves a thin spider web of lacing on the glass. This has the potential to be a pretty solid German-style pilsener. It has all the right characteristics, it just needs a crisper hoppiness, so I look forward to trying this beer when I know for sure it’s fresh. roder60 (1019), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 29, 2007 Had overlooking the bay in san fransisco. Poured a lisght crisp yellow color with fizzy white head. Aroma and flavor sweet and grassy with some saaz hop. Overall, very nice pils. after4ever (2711), Brier, Washington, USA Jun 27, 2007 Draft at Cooper’s. Pours a sparkling gold with sheets and sheets of churning tiny bubbles. Nice thick fluffy platinum blonde suds up top. No nose. Little lace. Very little body or mid-palate; maybe a bit of fizz on the attack. Not much of a beerl even the hoped-for saazy finish isn’t much. Zzzzzzz. fordest (1954), Santee/San Diego, California, USA Jun 22, 2007 Draft at O’Brien’s. Not much aroma on this bright, clear yellow very fizzy beer. Nice white head though. Some malty, bready aromas. Flavor was pretty refreshing. Touches of citrus and more bready flavors. Just OK hayduke (1619), Eureka, California, USA Jun 11, 2007 Updated: Jun 16, 2007Had this on draft at the Grand Hyatt in San Francisco so assume that this came from the Berkeley, CA brewery. Came a clear gold with a small white head. Nose of light hops. The mouthfeel was clean, and flavors were of light malts and hops. This indeed tastes just like an average German Pilsener.
