UPDATED: AUG 10, 2006 12 oz. Bottle, Apr 16, 2006 This is quite clearly labeled as being produced at the Berkeley brewery. Sold at Wild Oats in a six pack with a cylindrical pilsner/alt glass attached. Pours pale straw with a rocky, lacy head on top. Big German hop smell at opening stays with the pour. Lazy stream of bubbles rises through the glass. A nice German malt, with a very, very slight tart note. Kind of a grassy straw taste, finished of by straightforward noble hops bitterness. A solid interpretation of the style, and who’d a thought a place in Berkeley would have the discipline to make a pils to precise German engineering standards.<hr>Draft, Sept 18, 2005. Sampled in a solid plastic mug, so I couldn’t get a handle on its color. Have to presume it’s okay. Taste, though, is light and "crisp," like American pale macros claim, but this one really is. But beyond that, not much stands out in the way of hops, just the standard German bitterness against pale malts. Finished nice and dry. Again, an imported pilsner that’s probably much better closer to home.
Additional note, Aug 10, 2006. Finishing the sixer, I found that last bottle started to show more nice German hop bitterness. Crisper and cleaner. I think that’s worth bumpint the rating up a notch.

12 oz. bottle from Safeway. Pours light yellow with a white head. Flavor is dry, grassy hops and biscuit malt with light lemon and citrus hops finish and a tiny bit of skunk. Light bodied with nice peppery carbonation. A classic, light German pilsner. Crisp, refreshing and very easy to drink. Great balance. Really nice.

Draft. Pretty good pils with the typical notes. Some hops, not a ton. Clean and drinkable but nothing to write home about. Not to say I couldn’t put away a few of them...

Bottle. Pours a mostly clear pale yellowish color with a moderate off-white head on there. Nose has some corn and stale grains, though manages to seem crisp. Taste is light and fairly crisp, and slightly sweet. OK, but nothing spectacular.

330ml into glass. Minimal aroma, grassy pepper perhaps? Clear yellow with small film of foam. Little carbonation. Average bitterness, hoppy finish. Some cooked vegetables a tiny amount of malt coming through at the end. Not so great. Einfach Langweilig!

Drank while wandering around Chicago in 2012 -- Great pilsner. Would prefer over the Mass produced Pilsner that’s celebrated centennials.
