Tap at the brewery - pretty well-executed black ipa here - hops are juicy and green, mildly woody and citric, but they combine well with the roast and light bitterness of the dark malts - low carbonation - mouthfeel is slick - woody and lightly smoky finish - well done.

UPDATED: JUL 15, 2012 Tap at the brewery. Poured a dark opaque brown with a frothy, khaki head. Smell is very roasty, cocoa nibs, coffee, burnt malt, and light hops. Taste is really porter-like, roasted espresso, chocolate, grapefruit, and citrus with a moderately bitter finish. Mouthfeel is creamy with soft carbonation. Nice roasty Black IPA, definitely my favorite beer here and I’m glad a local brewery is doing one.

Pour on tap at the brewery, dark brownish black with thin tan head, aroma had notes of pine, grass, orange, slight cocoa, coffee and roast, nice balance with a hint of sweet caramel. Taste is slight pine and grass but masked mostly by coffee and roasted malts, slight cocoa powder and caramel finishing fairly bitter. Decent.
3.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 onceblind (2642) - Denver, Colorado, USA - JUN 28, 2012
Heavy black pour with a deep and pleasantly toasted aroma. Nose of chocolate, licorice, a light smokiness, and a perfumy herbal bitterness. Flavor is a little more bitter than id like with some smoky dark earthiness, herbal hop bitter tones, and a roasted black malt essence. Not as delightful as the nose.
