4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: SEP 15, 2013 12 oz at the brewery. Pours cloudy orange with a small white head. Lapsang Souchong is my favorite tea and Diotima makes excellent use of it. The nose has plenty of piney, smokey goodness. They didn?t skimp. There is a tart, citrusy funk which is weird at first but really makes sense with the tea notes after a few sips. Loads of pine and sharp smoke in the flavor with a medley of pineapple and cardamom beaneath. Great beer and unique.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Cloudy honey golden with a thin ring of white head. The aroma is one of the most style-blending, interesting, and odd beer aromas I’ve experienced in a long time. I find a hefty dose of smokey rauch-malt, earthy herbal spice (tea, from the description I suppose, though I might have guessed cumin and coriander), and dusty barnyard hay. The flavor is nice and medium-full with a pleasant linger and mouthfeel. Lots of flavors going on, including campfire smoke, light cedar, mellow herbal spices ("green tea" comes through nicely on the flavor here), and with a mellow calming malty backbone of wheaty tones, Belgian pale malt, hay, barn funk, and doughy yeast. Confusing, yet intricately delightful.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Medicine bottle type growler shared by John. The pour is a hazed golden with pretty much no head. The aroma is soft smoke, very much the smokiness of Lapsang Souchong tea. Additionally, there is a nice herbal floral sweetness of the Saison character. The taste is really smoky, very much the Lapsong tea essence, paired well with the nice soft herbal floral Saison. The palate is medium to light bodied, soft carbonation, and a soft smoke finish. Really unique, fun and well made beer. Thanks for bringing this one from Denver and sharing John.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Clear gold pour - smells like a campfire in the middle of a pine forest - if you are familiar with the tea, it smells similar, with just a little floral character underneath - smells pretty awesome - flavor is light and mildly sweet (honey), with light bitterness and quite a strong but pleasant flavor of the smoked tea - lightly floral finish - simple, but interesting and well-executed.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap at the brewery. Pour is hazy golden orange with a one-finger white head and good lacing. Smoke, spice, light fruit, bread, bacon, and popcorn in the aroma. Taste is not nearly as savory as the aroma, but there is a light smoke presence; esters, phenols, biscuit and tea leaves. Medium body with high carbonation. Interesting for sure, but not really my thing.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
On tap at the brewery.
Aroma has a a light sweetness to it along with a fairly strong coriander note. Medium light tea aroma with hints of fruit esters including banana, pear and light stone fruit.
Pours a slightly cloudy yellow gold with a thin white head that has surprisingly nice retention considering how thin it is. Moderately high lacing.
Flavor is fairly sweet with a moderately strong fruit ester character. Medium strong coriander note. Medium light tea flavor that is more prevalent in the finish. Pear and banana are most prevalent fruit notes. Light citrus. Faint pine character and very faint smoke note.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth.
Overall an alright beer, but the sweetness really gets in the way. It is way under attenuated. I don’t get hot dog water but I can see how a light smoke and some coriander could mimic that flavor.
