(Cask at White Horse, Parson’s Green, London, 26 Nov 2011) Dark brown colour with brief, foamy head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of dark fruit, caramel and dark berries. Malty, roasted taste with dark fruit, raisins and dark bread. Rather light body, quite dry, with a gentle bitterness. Tasty and enjoyable mild.

Bottle from Deeside Drink Emporium, Banchory. It pours deep ruby, with a big-off white head. The nose is vinous, dark fruit, dark chocolate and caramel. The taste is wood, roasted malt, aniseed dark fruit and some port, with a dry finish. Thin to moderate body and soft carbonation. Not bad.

500ml bottle from GBBF bottle stand, drunk at home, 5th Dec 2010. Very cloudy brown, flat and lifeless. Bottle was dated BBE Jan 2011, so could well be tired. Bland malt taste and musty oxidised nose. Thin palate.

Chelmsford Winter Beer Festival. Loads of beers shared with ChrisO and Harrisoni - Cheers! Clear dark brown beer, residual white head. Light malt - ephemeral almost. A whisper of hop fruit. Apologetic beer!

Cask (handpump) @ NWAF 10, National Winter Ales Festival, The Venue, Sheridan Suite, Manchester, England.

Clear medium dark to dark red brown color with a small average, frothy, good lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, dark roasted, coffee. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat. [20100122]

Cask. Pours an opaque dark brown with a small and rough beige head. Roasted malt and coffee in the nose. Light body, flat, hard roasted malts, coffee and licorice. Has a light malt bitterness in the finish. Nice. 220110

Bottle from The Scottish Real Ale Shop. Mild sweet malty aroma. Very dark brown colour with tan head. Tastes of smooth dark chocolate coffee. I don’t normally like this type of beer but this is a good one.
