Maker: Tryst, Larbert, Scotland *** Beer: Tryst Carronade IPA (cask, at Platform 3, Linlithgow) *** Style: American IPA *** ALC.VOL.: 4.% *** "Packed full of citrus flavours from the distinctive Washington hops used, combined with pale malt and Carron valley water." (brewery note) *** Colour: Yellow golden clear, small creamy off-white head. *** Nose: Sour lemon and barley. *** Texture: Medium body, lightly creamy, soft carbonation. *** Taste: Creamy lemon, some barley malt, but mostly lemon. Some floral notes in the middle, accompanying the citrus. Soft malty background. Hoppy bitterness increases in the finale. Moderate aftertaste of hops and lemon. *** Impressions: Light, well hopped, citrusy pale ale (most certainly no American pale ale). Refreshing, but not really distinguished. Blame it on the low ABV.

Clitheroe Beer Festival 2015. Hazy yellow-blonde. Has a hopped lemony aroma and taste behind a dominant bitterness.

500ml bottle conditioned. Nice bittering, pithy and slightly sharp. Very refreshing. Nice IPA considering the ABV of only 4.2%.

Bottle from Aldi. Hazy golden body with tiny yeast flecks floating around. Medium white head that holds well. Excellent lacing. Aroma of lime, red apple and grapefruit. Flavour of yeast, citrus and biscuit. Very drinkable. Medium body with a powdery texture. Soft fizz. A lovely beer.

Lively golden ale with a thick, frothy head. Aroma is fairly standard sour-citrus and the first taste, which is quite grapefruity, doesn’t suggest anything remarkable. There is then more which starts to come through. The malt is subtle but really hits home as you get through the beer with a biscuity, cereal sort of flavour underpinning it all to give it a bit of depth. Despite not being especially strong it feels like one to savour rather than guzzle.
