3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 rosenbergh (4653) - Helsinki, FINLAND - SEP 8, 2012
Cask at the Gallows Bird, Espoo, Finland.
Dark coppary reddish colour with small greyish tan head.
Sourness, tartness and sweetish malt in aroma. I don't think it's supposed to be like this but it's not necessarily bad.
Flavour is mild hops and heavy grainy malt.

The taste is caramel, sweet malt, toast, nut, powdery, plastic, burnt tire and some toffee, with a dry finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Ok, but not great.

Sweet malt aroma with a touch of chocolate and a hint of spicy hops. Fairly pale for the style and a touch cloudy but has a good off white head. Flavour is still good but doesn’t quite live up to the aroma

Bottle (bottle conditioned) at London tasting, May 2008 (courtesy harrisoni). BBE March 2009. Clear amber colour. Surprisingly prominent tangy, fruity hop aroma for a Scottish 80/-. Perhaps the late additional aroma hopping accounts for that. More malty on the palate, with some smoky notes, although the mouthfeel has slightly ashy feel and falls away a little. Nonetheless it’s a pretty tasty, if not entirely traditional 80/-, although I have no problem with that as I am not a big fan of stingily hopped Scottish ales.
