According to my database, I tasted 263 Chinese beers in 2001 & 2002 while in China. This was my preferred beer although there appears to be different versions at different Tsingtao breweries around the country.

UPDATED: MAY 10, 2013 Itís dark in color but it smells rather odd with notes of soy sauce and vinegar. This beer was offensive and used to rinse (clean?) my kitchen drain.

@ Qingdao beer festival. Black with nice brown head. Aroma and flavors are thin and sweet, but pretty nice. Fruity. Biitter orange with chocolate taste in finish. Thin and slightly sour. It almost wants to be a foreign stout but seems held back.

Bottled from some supermarket in Hong Kong. Extremely dark coloured, lasting brown head, absolutely beautiful. Strong nose, roasted malts, chocolate. Very bitter flavour, malts, coffee and chocolate. Better than expected. Iím not sure about the style, but it seems in between a Schwarz and a Porter.

Nnudd (69) - Helsinge, DENMARK - AUG 5, 2008
Bottle. Dark colour with a thick, light brown head. The aroma has a light roastiness and appetizing leafy hoppiness. The body is moderately full with rich malty flavours of nuts, dark chocolate, and light coffee. Better then i expected.

Bottle, 6.7 %. Almost opaque brown black and beige head. Nose is bitterish dark chocolate, some coffee, spiciness, anise. Flavor is roasted bitter, strong chocolate, coffee, maybe slightly salty, anise, liqourice. I’d say this is more into porter or stout at 6.7 %. And pretty good at it. Still has the dryness of a schwarz.

Bottle. Ruby colour with a nice beige head. Rich coffee aroma and taste with notes of roasted malts. A bit thin.

BŁckDich (5464) - McCall, Idaho, USA - SEP 16, 2007
UPDATED: SEP 29, 2007 Bottle: Also enjoyed on the Yokohama subway. Fairly stouty, not as black as the usuall deep SE asian dark lager, a shady brown, maybe. The nose though is fairly strong and roast, some bright fruity coffee and a well rounded acidic light roasted malt note. The flavor concurred with a vague roastines, yet sweet and full of chocolate. Itís heading somewhere else far from this place, but for this spot, at this time, it was not bad at all.
