Bottle. Miles ahead of other Tsingtaos. Rich, liquoricey nose with dark chocolate, roasted malts, plums. Lightish body for a stout, but not too fizzy. Rather sweet, with chocolate and coffee flavours prominent. Not too shabby.

Bought in at Wellcome Super Store in Hong Kong (quite OK beer and wine selection actually). Have to admit that I didn’t drink this properly, drank it straight outta the bottle. Roasted malt, some dark bitter chocolate and dark fruits. Thin and not very interesting.

355 cl bottle from a supermarket in Hong Kong, 7.5%. Pours black color, clear dark brown in closer look, big brownish head. Burnt malt on the nose. Aroma is licorice, dark malts, malzbier, dark bread, toasted malts, cocoa and coffee. Taste is somewhat sweetish, chocolateish, with a bitter dar chocolate finish. Carbonation is sustained, body is medium, finish is dusty, s bit sticky still quite dry, alcoholic. Quite good unexpectedly, tasty.

Can: Aroma is malty and quite sweet, mainly sugary, with roasted malt and burnt cacao. Black color, coffee brown creamy head. Flavor is sweet and malty, sugary, notes of molasse and candy. Burnt malt, cacao powder, cooking chocolate, roastiness. Dry, cacao bitter end. This has been the best beer from china yet.

Bottle brought home by Nnudd. Pours black with a creamy beige head. The aroma is brown sugar, roasted malt, licorice and light hops. Mainly roasted malty flavor with licorice notes.

Bottle from local Yamaya store. Good chocolate nose, light pine, some spiciness. Very dark brown, translucent at edges, 1-cm. dark tan head. Fizzy chocolate roast initial, goes to ripe dates, small bitter coating in finish. Medium body (a bit thin for the style). Good, but light for a foreign stout. Okay, but one-dimensional stuff.

Pours black pretty much with a tan head that fills at least 30% of the glass. Smell is a little sharp and somewhat sweet. Taste is kind of medicinal, little cocoa, little sweet but somehow decent. Dry finish. Pretty ok.

(Based on notes from 02092014) 330ml bottle from a take-out sushi-joint in st. Petersburg, which amazingly enough also had take-out Chinese beer, 6.7% abv. Black colour, average frothy mostly diminishing light brown head, good lacing. Heavily malty roasted aroma of dark bread and mild coffee, moderate piney hops. Taste is initially bittersweet turning into a moderately bitter and slightly salty finish with a light alcoholic feel. Medium to full body, oily texture, lively carbonation.
Bit too little aroma for something that’s closer to porter, but certainly the best Asian beer I’ve had ever as all the rest have been bog-standard lagers.

Bought this in Shanghai and the back label says 12°P and 4.5% ABV, yet says stout in English on the front. Pours a dark brown. Light aroma of roasted malts. Has a slight, burnt bitter taste. Best Tsingtao beer, but still watery when compared to other stouts.
