Bottle. Notes of milk, nougat, sweet licorice and milk chocolate. Well balanced. Very porteresque.

Bottle, thanks David! Drinkable malty with a medium body. More than I expected, but still rather anonymous

I am, in fact, kind of a fan of foreign stouts.... the sweet barley and malts get me many times, but luckily not every time! This has a decent head and a nearly black body. The aroma is adjunct sweetness and fake barley, sugary notes and all the mess like that. The flavour is average for a stout - lots of coffee and sugar shining through, but also sweet adjunct stuff messing up the balance. You could call this an "okay" macro stout - and you’d be right. And that’s about all it is.

Bottle from Yamaya. Pitch black, with a medium, frothy, chocolate milkshake head. Roasty aroma, coffee, chocolte, cream. Not exactly fragrant, but pretty nice. Sweet, roaaty flavor, chocolate, cream, roasted wood, salt, something like oyster. Lots of umami, a bit of licorice. Tasty, though there is a strange aspect to it. Nicely roasted finish. Thick, rich body. A pretty nice beer. Surprisingly nice.

Bottle brought and enjoyed in China. Huge light brown thick head that mostly lasted. Excellent display of lacework. Dark brown color with a reddish glow to it. Aroma of sweet light roasted malt, hint of chocolate, light dried fruity feel. Medium bodied with a soft carbonation. Light sweet and bitter flavor. Light roasted bittersweet finish. This was actually a positive surprise, with all the pale lager stuff that you normally find in China. Maybe I just needed the change of pace, but I enjoyed this one.

UPDATED: NOV 14, 2011 I am pleased to be showing myself in a distinctive and remarkable way as I am irresistible and perceptive. My nightclub is a pub in Chinatown and this beer is courtesy of the New Yen Yen (I guess it should be the New Yuan Yuan really, of course the New Renminbi Renminbi would be just silly) supermarket where I purchased this for a keen price of $3.50. After finishing a Tiger schooner from the very aptly named pub for this area, The Mountbatten, I am now discreetly demonstrating my perspispacity by supping on this outside while watching Asia pass me by in my own back yard. What a shop I have just completed! I have roast dukk, chook feat and bean Kurd sheets. All this amid acid! Funny, can’t taste the ratter, sorry latter, but I am enjoying a well presented glass of this with a fine lace and consistent head. Perfect crema atop an opaque deep black beer. The nose is chocolate malt and vanilla with such clean notes to show the quality control in the brewing process. These are not as prominent in the taste but the clarity of flavour and mouthfeel is impressive. ABV sneaks up on you as the glass warms but all you are ever left with is the pleasant burnt malt palate of a well produced stout. Good stuff old China.

UPDATED: JUN 13, 2013 Re-rate 6/10/13: Bottle sample at a tasting at kerenmk’s place. Thanks Tom C. Dark brown with a beige head. Vegetal aroma, a bit roasty, a bit chocolaty, a bit acidic. Roasty and slightly vegetal flavor, bitter and a bit sweet with light acidic hints. Medium-bodied. Doesn’t seem very fresh. Score is not calculated. 4/3/5/3/10=2.5

Bottle sample at a tasting. Thanks zvikar. Dark brown to black yet transparent , with a bit of beige foam. Aroma of dark malt, a bit of roastiness and toasted bread. Sweet flavor with toasted bread, a tiny bit of caramel and a bit of coffee. Medium-bodied. A 7.5% Stout that tastes somewhat like a light Schwarzbier - Quite enjoyable! 6/3/7/3/13=3.2

UPDATED: APR 23, 2012 Medium brown head. Nearly opaque black body goes deep brown at edges. Caramelly metallic aroma with licorice and chocolate notes. Dry-sweet malty caramelly taste with roasty notes. Fullish body. Mild, soft, and fizzy mouthfeel with some heat. Dryish minty roasty licorice aftertaste with chocolatey toffee pudding notes. Nice, drinkable, mellow. (0.355l bottle, Wellcome, Lohas Park, Hong Kong. Also shared by hcalsos.)
