COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Tsingtao Beer has a pleasant aroma and a well-balanced taste. It has high-malty flavor and well-hopped character. Tsingtao is produced with spring water from Laoshan, a mountain area famous throughout China for the purity of its water. The domestically-grown hops used to brew Tsingtao are of such high quality that they are also exported to European breweries. Tsingtao also uses the finest yeast and barley imported from Australia and Canada in its brewing process.

NOTE: Under this entry, rate ONLY exported Tsingtao that roughly matches the ABV and local Tsingtao that matches it completely. If it differs in any way and doesn’t match the other entries under the brewer, please send in a bug report with the alcohol percentage, degrees plato (important!), the GTIN and preferably a link to a picture of both the front and the back label so that we can set up an entry.

UPDATED: OCT 17, 2010 Tsingtao is not bad at all. The German’s took Qingdao from the Chinese during WWI (correct me if I am wrong), and set up their own brewery. Pretty cool story isn’t it? German beer brewed in China.

abemorsten (1201) - Randaberg, NORWAY - OCT 3, 2010
Clear light golden with a creamy white head. Aromas include light malts, acidity, fruity artificial esters. Instant blandness, sweet and bitter. Sticky. Light body. Medium carbonation.

Appearance: clear sunny gold; small head that shrinks to nothing; no appreciable lace. Aroma: smells of cut grass and pepper; almost pilsner-y. Taste: taste is almost completely of plain carbonation, with a whisper of grains. Finish: nonexistent. Notes: Like a mineral water flavored with beer extract.

0.3L bottle. Light gold - almost no carbonation. Light sugar in the aroma. Taste is lacking, with a slight plastic aftertaste.

330 ml bottle. Rated @ 12.12.2009.
Clear yellow colour with a white head. Aroma of pale malts and some hops. Flavour of malts and mild hops. Nothing else. Watery mouthfeel. Premium? Yeah, this is a real premium brew.

Tsingtao has a medium, white head and a very clear, deep golden appearance. Carbonation is moderate. The aroma is stereotypical lager, with that nice beer smell. Taste is a good balance of barley and hops; round and well made. Mouth-feel is light and watery, and Tsingtao finishes crisp and refreshing. Overall, I really enjoyed this one, and was happy that my sample wasn’t skunked (green bottle). RJT

The green bottle makes it hard to get a well kept example. When it is good it is still just OK. Bland lager but not terrible. When at a Chinese restaurant stick to the Scorpion Bowls and Navy Grog. Serving: Bottle

ClubGonzo (1732) - Bergen, NORWAY - SEP 13, 2010
Bottle @ Yang Tse Kiang Restaurant, Bergen. Pours a pale lager body with a thin white head. Nose is sweet pale malts and corn, rice and grains. Taste is sweet and slightly grainy. Smooth, and rather drinkable, but oh so dull.
