COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Tsingtao Beer has a pleasant aroma and a well-balanced taste. It has high-malty flavor and well-hopped character. Tsingtao is produced with spring water from Laoshan, a mountain area famous throughout China for the purity of its water. The domestically-grown hops used to brew Tsingtao are of such high quality that they are also exported to European breweries. Tsingtao also uses the finest yeast and barley imported from Australia and Canada in its brewing process.

NOTE: Under this entry, rate ONLY exported Tsingtao that roughly matches the ABV and local Tsingtao that matches it completely. If it differs in any way and doesn’t match the other entries under the brewer, please send in a bug report with the alcohol percentage, degrees plato (important!), the GTIN and preferably a link to a picture of both the front and the back label so that we can set up an entry.

Bottle (355ml) Had this with dim sum at the Pearl restaurant at Harbourfront, Toronto. Pours a clear sparkling light yellow with an average, quick diminishing white head. Aroma is quite light, mild grain (corn & wheat) and slight hops, mildly sweet but not oppressively so. Taste follows the aroma - very light and cabronated mouthfeel, quite good with spicy food but I wouldn’t have it on its own.

12 ounce bottle from Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA. Huge amount of skunk as the bottle opened. Pours a clear pale golden with a medium frothy head. Poor head retention and lacing. Aroma of sweet malts, grain. Taste is sweet, grainy malts, corn, rice, very subtle grass. Thick mouthfeel but thin bodied. Slightly watery.

(33 cl bottle at restaurant "Djingis Khan" in Stockholm, Sweden) Labeled 4.7%. Clear straw yellow color, white creamy head. Fruity and sweet malty scent with some marzipan. Thin watery malty taste. Low bitterness.

4.7% bottle at home. Another one that got away. We’ve all had this no end of times in Chinese restaurants the length and breadth I’m sure. Pale and fizzing with a sheet of froth. Deadening condition Vs some mildly fiery tom yum. Soapy aloe-like aroma with hints of wholemeal and pine. Clean taste: pine scrubbed with TCP clean in fact. Some corn and biscuits. Not bad.

UPDATED: MAR 29, 2004 Had a thick white head that didn't stay around. The smell suggests malt and hops, but still doesn't have a lot of flavor.

Golden color with small white head. Nice lager aroma of malts and a bit of skunk. The flavor was refreshing and smooth. Malty notes to go along with some noble hops. It leaves a pleasant malt aftertaste that isn’t too sweet. Other than the small skunk smell I couldn’t detect a fault in this beer.

UPDATED: APR 21, 2007 June, 2002 I have heard that this beer is very variable, but can be quite spicy and refreshing. Mine was obviously of the poor variety - soapy-sweet selotape. [1.4]
March, 2004 Pale yellow. Clean & crisp. Huge cow pat malt aroma. Surprisingly attractive. Some light bitterness. Not much happening, but an acceptable and refreshing drink. [2.2]
April, 2007 On tap at the Noodle House in Gillingham. Crisp and drinkable. Most of the character appears to come from the carbonation, and the main element of this beer is that it is inoffensive. [2.0]

330ml bottle sampled with Finn at The Hong Kong restaurant in Ipswich some hours after watching The Blues against Sunderland (3-1).
Pale yellow with nice clarity. White head fast diminishing. Nothing more in aroma than being refreshing. Flavour has sweetness of rice mix with some lemon in the end. By the way, very good food at this Chinese place (23.09.2006)
