COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Tsingtao Beer has a pleasant aroma and a well-balanced taste. It has high-malty flavor and well-hopped character. Tsingtao is produced with spring water from Laoshan, a mountain area famous throughout China for the purity of its water. The domestically-grown hops used to brew Tsingtao are of such high quality that they are also exported to European breweries. Tsingtao also uses the finest yeast and barley imported from Australia and Canada in its brewing process.

NOTE: Under this entry, rate ONLY exported Tsingtao that roughly matches the ABV and local Tsingtao that matches it completely. If it differs in any way and doesn’t match the other entries under the brewer, please send in a bug report with the alcohol percentage, degrees plato (important!), the GTIN and preferably a link to a picture of both the front and the back label so that we can set up an entry.

Poured with very large head over a standard-looking yellow and relatively still beer. I could smell the very sweet malt from 2 feet away as the head settled; up closer a bit of citrus comes through to the nose. This is a mellow drinker, with a tartness the primary flavoring. Other than being terribly watery-feeling, this isn't as bad as I'd feared. Could balance well with Soy Sauce-soaked munchies.

Very skunky aroma. Thin white head recedes completely on light golden body. Mild bitterness and sweet finish. Fizzy carbonation. Bottle (green).

larsga (4426) - Oslo, NORWAY - JUL 24, 2010
Medium white head. Paleish yellow body. Light oily grassy papery aroma with toffee notes. Dryish papery mealy strawy grassy taste with toffee notes. Light body. Mild, smoothish mouthfeel. Dryish papery grassy aftertaste. Fairly clean, although bad off-flavours settle in the mouth after a while. Bloody hell! They actually put hops in this. Could be a lot worse. (0.33l bottle, Meny Grønland, Oslo.)

Clear, yellow/light orange, watery, medium white quickly dissipating head. Aroma mostly skunk, though there’s a bit of maltiness struggling through. Flavor starts out not bad at all, watery and thin but somewhat sweet and certainly less offensive than the nose; no obviously serious defects. Bit of sourness on the back end, and very quick to finish with a watery feel as it goes down. Certainly there are worse beers from outside of Europe and the North America; the question is, how many are better and is it worth my while to try to find out?

33 cl bottle from Centra. Pale beer, plenyt of CO2. Full malty taste, but there is some bitterness, too. But the bitterness is not very pleasant, it is probably for hop extracts. With some more care, this could have been a decent pilsener.

12 oz at the evocatively named szichuanese restaurant in the id. pours a crystal clear slightly burnished medium gold. tons of sparkling nucleation columns and a fizzy, short lived white head. mildly skunky, somewhat corny aroma. fizzy, watery body with slippery bits here and there. nutty, corny, corn nutty and slightly skunky mid palate. mild finish. i happily inhale these at chinese places, despite a rather striking mediocrity. i always like to pretend i know how to pronounce the name like a real mandarin speaker. maybe that adds to it.

Bottle. Pours a clear flat light gold with a huge diminishing white head. Tsingtao is another lager that falls victim to the dreaded green bottle. Because of said bottle it is no surprise to discover that the aroma is primarily skunky. Once I got past the skunkyness it smelt kind of sweet with some yeast and grain. After the dissapointing appearance and aroma the flavour was a nice surprise, it was nowhere as bad as I thought it would be, especially after reading some of the (overly) harsh reviews of it here. Sweet with a touch of hops and caramel, it goes down easy and is quite enjoyable. I’m surprised to say that I would actually get this again.
