COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Tsingtao Beer has a pleasant aroma and a well-balanced taste. It has high-malty flavor and well-hopped character. Tsingtao is produced with spring water from Laoshan, a mountain area famous throughout China for the purity of its water. The domestically-grown hops used to brew Tsingtao are of such high quality that they are also exported to European breweries. Tsingtao also uses the finest yeast and barley imported from Australia and Canada in its brewing process.

NOTE: Under this entry, rate ONLY exported Tsingtao that roughly matches the ABV and local Tsingtao that matches it completely. If it differs in any way and doesn’t match the other entries under the brewer, please send in a bug report with the alcohol percentage, degrees plato (important!), the GTIN and preferably a link to a picture of both the front and the back label so that we can set up an entry.

Why did I drink this? Well, my "friend" Libby brought me a bottle, and well, it’s been years since I tried it, so there I went. This brew was dominated by an off tasting, metallic hop bitterness. Another odd thing - the palate was somewhat full on my tongue, but at the same time felt watery on the roof of my mouth. that’s weird. This would be a totally acceptable beverage if you’re eating something hot’n’spicy. When you ask your "friends" to bring you beer, you’d better be specific!!!!

4/14/2009: After finishing the bottle, I nearly forgot that I had even had a beer to drink! Tsingtao is dry, nearly flavorless, and generally unmemorable. It would be difficult if not impossible to make a distinction between this beer and any other mass-produced macro lager.

12 fl. oz. bottle at Chi Thai Restaurant in Columbus, Ohio. Rating #980 for this beer.

UPDATED: JUL 3, 2007 Bottled 33cl. It pours a yellow beer with a fast diminishing white head. Nice aromas: Biscuitty, hoppy, oily, grassy, grainy. Indeed, the nose is quite nice! A graniy taste with some grassy elements. A hint of oiliness. Rather watery taste. Some oiliness comes through again just before a great dry, citrussy and biscuitty finish. A rather good lager! More than decent.

Bottled. Best I can say about this is it lets me paste a "China" stamp in my album of country statistics. Big foamy head at pour that hangs around too long. Pale straw color, and generic "beer" smell. Hard to get a good sip out from under the hunka foam. Taste makes me yearn for the more complex flavor profile of a Budweiser. After some effort, I can taste a little malt sweetness and a slightly bitter aftertaste. To paraphrase the old stereotype, it takes much less than an hour again for me to be thirsty... for a real beer. Again, it doesn't taste bad per se, just has no taste at all.

Blah. Had this at my birthday party with sushi and even that couldn’t mask the horrible-ness of this beer. Aroma was a weak mix of light malt and corn. Pour was a light bubbly gold with a 2 finger white head. Taste was full of adjunct. Corn or rice maybe? A light malt sweet aftertaste that didn’t help much.

Can. Pretty typical Asian lager. Minimal to no head. Aroma is slightly floral. The flavor is weak but not offensive. I bought this in Hong Kong.

Mildly skunky and pissy smell. Yellow with a medium head. Tastes like watered down urine. Lacks any redeeming value except for the fact that it is only mildly offensive.
