COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Tsingtao Beer has a pleasant aroma and a well-balanced taste. It has high-malty flavor and well-hopped character. Tsingtao is produced with spring water from Laoshan, a mountain area famous throughout China for the purity of its water. The domestically-grown hops used to brew Tsingtao are of such high quality that they are also exported to European breweries. Tsingtao also uses the finest yeast and barley imported from Australia and Canada in its brewing process.

NOTE: Under this entry, rate ONLY exported Tsingtao that roughly matches the ABV and local Tsingtao that matches it completely. If it differs in any way and doesn’t match the other entries under the brewer, please send in a bug report with the alcohol percentage, degrees plato (important!), the GTIN and preferably a link to a picture of both the front and the back label so that we can set up an entry.

My very first Chinese beer and I’m very surprised how mild tasty it is with very little after taste. It reminds me of an American brewed beer

Tsingtao has a medium, white head and a very clear, deep golden appearance. Carbonation is moderate. The aroma is stereotypical lager, with that nice beer smell. Taste is a good balance of barley and hops; round and well made. Mouth-feel is light and watery, and Tsingtao finishes crisp and refreshing. Overall, I really enjoyed this one, and was happy that my sample wasn’t skunked (green bottle). RJT

UPDATED: SEP 16, 2006 A nice pale colored lager with bright flavors. Goes down smooth and mellow. No skunky flavors at all. This is a perfect example of a great tasting lager that could easily replace the readily available Europen imports that people think they like.

This is my first Asian beer, so I was tentative about it. It poured a pale amber with a sudsy-looking head. I read that some smelled the dreaded skunk, but there was none in mine. The nose was very lightly fruity with a detergent component???, unusual for a lager. The taste was excellent, light hops and bitterness and very refreshing with a nutty aftertaste. For me, a pale lager fan, this is a very good beer.

UPDATED: JAN 10, 2008 This is a good, solid and tasty lager and one I’ve had a number of times but not frequently. It is a slightly deeper gold than usual, with a thick, big white head that slowly dissipates to a small ring, a little bubbly but not very. The aroma is basically standard for the type but stronger and more pungent and flowery than most. It smells of malt, grain and a bit of flowery hops. The taste is grain, a little sweet, with definite hoppy bitterness, more strongly flavoured, sweet and bitter than Tsingtao Pure Draft and more hoppy/bitter than many other pale lagers like Sapporo (otherwise rather similar). It has some alcoholic warmth, body, and a longish grain aftertaste.

Shows its German heritage (brewery originally established by German colonial masters; most brewmasters still alumni of famed Munich Technical University’s Weihenstephan Institute as are many of their peers around the world). Can stand up to most any traditional European beer. Not a difficult choice when on the menu, US beers (not talking micros here) need not apply.

Bottle. P. F. Changs Tucson AZ light zesty pour with a thin head. Light. Corn wheat barley light in the hopps dept. Very flavorful for a light beer. Goes very well with Chinese food!
