There’s a pile of clichés we won’t deploy here attesting to the fact that you can never take anything in this world for granted. Sure enough, just as Tuatara’s beloved American Pale Ale looked like getting bigger than Texas, our supply of the mighty American hops that defined it started to go wobbly on us. Undeterred, we set to crafting a local solution. Aotearoa Pale Ale takes the spirit of the old APA and reanimates it with a hopping regime that’s as kiwi as a 25 year mortgage. The same-but-different local recipe (Pacific Jade, Cascade, Sauvin and Wai-iti for all you trainspotters) is well within the remit of the original APA, but with a deep, long, new age flavour profile.

500ml brown bottle. Deep golden-orange pour, clear. Big off white head. Nose has some sweet citrus, orangey. Taste has some malt sweetness, some hop fruitiness. Finishes with orange and grapefruity notes, trace of resin and some Nelson Sauvin character lingers as well. Dry end, grainy note, balanced bitterness. Medium body with medium carbonation. Very drinkable with a nice hop blend.

Bitter and bitter scent with small amounts of caramel. Good taste of tropical fruits and a little bitter taste at the end. Good bitterness that fills the mouth for a long time. The taste and the smell was completely different but still good beer. Follow me @ Kung av öl @ Facebook for more pictures and ratings.

Tap @ Cafe Derat. Clear golden coloured with an off white head. Nose is tropical fruits, peach, mango (deScription courtesy of caesar), super fruity. Flavour is light malted with a lot of tropical fruits, and a nice hop bitterness. Very clean and easy drinkable.

Bottled, from Systembolaget. Clear pale amber, mid sized head. Mango and gooseberry dominates a focused aroma. Mid dry with medium body and rounded mouthfeel. Lightly caramelly with plenty of passionfruit. Distinct bitter finish.

Flaska från SB. Bärnstensfärgad med litet vitt skum. Doftar karamell och päron, nästan lite parfymerad doft. Samma toner i smaken med en trevlig avslutande beska.

Bottle from World Beer Market. Tuatara Aotearoa Pale Ale 5.8% served in my new teku glass this New Zealand APA pours a deep amber-orange with a soapy white head that looks brown in certain lights. The aroma is great - hugely fragrant tropical fruits: mangoes, passionfruit and maybe even some strawberry jam notes. A soft prickly carbonation on a smooth medium body gives this beer substance. The taste is a wonderful bitterness blending woodsy bitter notes with fistfuls of luscious fruits. Great stuff with good balance.

Flaska från Erik, stort tack! Klar gyllenbrun vätska med vitt skum. Typisk apa-doft + karamell. Karamellig även i smaken och päron finns där. Lite tunn kanske, men inte så det stör. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
