COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
There’s a pile of clichés we won’t deploy here attesting to the fact that you can never take anything in this world for granted. Sure enough, just as Tuatara’s beloved American Pale Ale looked like getting bigger than Texas, our supply of the mighty American hops that defined it started to go wobbly on us. Undeterred, we set to crafting a local solution. Aotearoa Pale Ale takes the spirit of the old APA and reanimates it with a hopping regime that’s as kiwi as a 25 year mortgage. The same-but-different local recipe (Pacific Jade, Cascade, Sauvin and Wai-iti for all you trainspotters) is well within the remit of the original APA, but with a deep, long, new age flavour profile.

Cloudy orange-amber color, with medium head. Very nice aroma of fruity hops initially, with malt grains and other cereals, and even some honey later. Dry mouthfeel; the flavor is dominated by the cereals, of good quality, and some toffee; strong hopping, that provides some soft resins and not much fruitiness; the final is long.
Quite good indeed.

Had on tap - guessing this is what I had. Bubbly head. Fruity (curranty, slightly earthy) aroma and amber colour. Soft body, lots of bitterness, rich citrusy hop character with light caramelly malts.

Big bottle. Light copper with decent porous head. Bit of a weird hop nose has a bit of A Citraness to it. Flavour is light with a big long aftertaste. Delicate candy hop flavour and light malt with some nice lingering pepperiness.

500ml bottle pours a pale golden amber color with a finger and a half of white head that leaves some excellent lacing on the glass. Aroma is big on the citrus and passionfruit. Taste is a light fruity and malty sweetness with a bold grapefruit hop bitterness that lingers on the palate but is quite pleasant. This is a bold and flavorful APA with a slight twist that is truly delightful on the palate and highly recommended.

Bottle at Kinloch. Pours a hazy light amber with a small off-white head. Sweet with some dryness. Lots of hops aromas; mostly exotic fruits and hints of citrus. Tiny hints of resin. Full bodied. Medium to high carbonation. Aotearoa Pale Ale... My new favourite style.

500ml brown bottle. Deep golden-orange pour, clear. Big off white head. Nose has some sweet citrus, orangey. Taste has some malt sweetness, some hop fruitiness. Finishes with orange and grapefruity notes, trace of resin and some Nelson Sauvin character lingers as well. Dry end, grainy note, balanced bitterness. Medium body with medium carbonation. Very drinkable with a nice hop blend.

Bottle. Amber with a puffy off-white head. Aroma of lychees, gooseberries, grapefruit, passionfruit flowers. Taste has caramel and light biscuit, very NZ tropical fruits leading to a grapefruity bitter finish. Sometimes these Kiwi hops can be a bit overbearing, but - whilst hoppy - this is very nice.

Bottle from Mane Liquor. Deep amber pour with a dense white head leaving superb lacing. Very floral nose overlapped with earthy tones and pine hops. A little thin in the mouth but a nice bitterness follows. Unfortunately not as good as the previous APA but well made nonetheless
