Bottle from liquor barons Carlisle. Pours a dark golden with a quickly fading white head. Nose is a grapefruit and citrus hop bomb!!! Toffee hints in there as well to add sweetness. Dry grapefruit hop bitterness dominates the taste. More citrus and toffee malts coming through. Just has that fresh new zealand hop presence shines through beautifully. Soft carbonation makes for a nice mouthfeel. Very easy to drink. This is a massive pale ale truly hop head heaven very good stuff!!! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Gold pour with a thin off white head. Big floral aroma with some citrus, herbs. Taste is malty, grapefruit, slight resin with good persistent bitterness. I *love* the Aeoteroa Pale Ale, but this is milder and more sessionable.

as expected, the american-ness of this lends a kick to the bitterness. in any other language this would be an ipa. but nevermind that, this is rather good for all its citrus and hop punch.

500ml bottle. Great aroma, floral, with herbs. Resinous full hop bitterness, more floral and herb notes, grapefruit lingering. Lively carbonation, malt balance is a little on the light side leaving plenty of bitterness.

King of citrus this beer is. Tastes so big for its relatively measly 5.7%. I used to think Pilsener was Tuatara’s best, but now I’ve had this APA for the second time, I ’ve changed my mind. This is excellent

On tap in Dunedin, NZ. Lovely APA with tropical fruit and piney hop aromas on top of a caramel malt base. Well balanced favour profile with a decent hop bitterness that persists. Appears amber with smallish white head. Medium bodied, slick texture, quite quaffable.

UPDATED: APR 20, 2013 Prefer the kick of the American hopped version - though both it and the New Zealand hopped version are excellent examples of the breed.

Bottle. Pours amber with light head. Aroma of caramel, light pine, dough, and malt. Flavors of malts citrus, melon, and a bit of pine. Full body for an IPA. Quite fruity overall. Very nice

It’s back after a long hiatus. Tried it next the Aotearoa Pale Ale. Darker in colour and freshness of the hops come through here. Little sweeter than the NZ version. When I first rates the NZ version I though it was better than the US version - now I would tend to disagree, though touch and go. It’s all about the hops as I though the NZ version was more muted and not as vibrant.
