Binny’s LP 330ml ($5): Purchased this as Golden Ale, but it said Ardennes elsewhere on the bottle, so I figured it is the same thing. Pour is nice. Slightly hazy body with a nice solid white head. Aroma is overflowing with fruitiness and Belgian yeast. Taste is really, really Belgian. Pretty sweet. Kind of coats your mouth a wee bit. A nice subtle hoppiness underlies this whole thing. Something is a tad off, but this is still pretty good. First beer from NZ for me.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 drpimento (1936) - La Crosse, Wisconsin, USA - JAN 24, 2012
Pretty close to the real deal. Served at a good temperature and poured with a medium sized off-white head that settled pretty quick and a bit of lace. Color is a clear 18k gold. Aroma is yeast, hop, malt, wine, fruit. Flavor’s like nose, a little hoppier than most Belgian Goldens, otherwise very close to style. Body’s great; ditto carbonation. Finish is like flavor, good length, and a bit boozy. Nice beer, tho perhaps a little intense for many repeat quaffs.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Jimthechap (1195) - Christchurch, NEW ZEALAND - JUL 17, 2011
I’ve heard good things about this beer. Lets see. Light golden colour with a small white head that subsided quite quickly. The aromas are of lemon curd, orange juice and of Belgian ale yeast. Intriguing. Flavours of the same starting citrus and becoming mature cheese and tart. There’s a lingering sting of citrus left on the palate and it endures. Not bad at all.
