3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
From the FYO at Regional WInes & Spirits. Pours pale with a light fluffy head, Aroma full of grapefruit and grass. Quite subtle and light in the mouth, but the hops kick in quickly, leaving a refreshingly lemony lingering bitter aftertaste. My overall sensation of this ale is "fresh", it feels fresh and light in the mouth, bright and vibrant in the mouth. Nicely done.

Fruity explosion as expected, with pineapple and citrus dancing on the tongue. Nice lasting head and complimentary body. The lights are on and everybodyís home. I rated this a notch below the Tuatara Aotearoa Pale Ale and would like to try both together.

Great nz hop aroma and taste. Quite a malty base, well balanced. Darkish red golden look. The market is full of pale ales but this one stands out to me

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
From Craftissimo. Amber translucent pour with bubbly watery white head and long legs. Smells very malty and sweet with floral fruity hop in the background. Tastes malty though less sweet than in the aroma, spice/pepper, piney hop, quite bitter. Slick but dry body - together with the deeply bitter hop, characteristic of Tuatara. HKdIPA said this tasted like the Tuatara APA - I agree. It's a more complex, maltier version of it.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from Craftissimo at home. Translucent amber pour with dissipating head. Aroma. Taste is maltier/sweeter than expected, tastes almost juicy. Hops are sharp, almost sour, and piney, deep bitterness. Very similar to the Tuatara APA in body, color, and maltiness, but different types of hoppiness, the Conehead tastes more complex - a lot going on for a 5.8% beer. Good!

Not sure whatís ton on with this the 2014 batch of things. Itís aroma is intense, but the bitterness is lacking, and the dry finish is in the wrong place at the middle of the tongue and not the back. Very pine all around, and thatí about it, all around and no on point.

UPDATED: APR 30, 2015 2015 Harvest - happy with my previous scores. Pungent hops on the nose and nicely balanced with a hint of sweetness. 6% this year and supposedly called air-hopped because the fresh hops were flown in this year - that is how you know you have made it.
2014 Harvest - have to admit I am being slightly decadent here with two nice big glasses of Conehead - one from bottle, the other from keg so the score is going to be more of an aggregate! From the bottle the nose was a little more pungent and pronounced, while the keg was a little more muted. The keg version how shines a little brighter with more flavour and depth, though the bottle is slightly more carbonated and zingy. On the whole very similar (as you would hope) but am leaning towards draught. Big improvement on last year.
2013 Harvest from flash new Reptile bottle: Big resiny nose on this bad boy. Pours quite dark. On the palate not the beer I was expecting. Lingering bitterness at the end but not much happening up front. Have to say a little disappointed. 8/3/5/3/11

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
UPDATED: APR 20, 2015 RE-RATE 2015: Last yearís vintage was disappointing and had me questioning my 2013 4.4 rating. Iíve had my first 2015 bottle and I question no more, in fact an extra point. Heavenly tipple, this. ORIGINAL: Aroma = Awesome. Extremely fresh, brash, bold, vibrant, and above all GREEN. It smells of resin, it is pungent, it smells of citrus and most of all, passionfruit. When I first put my snozz to the glass, I caught a whiff of caramel. Taste is like aroma. Astringent green fruity resiny bitterness in a thin body. Such delicious hops. There is nothing restrained or elegant about this beer and itís not particularly complex, it kicks arse, it bludgeons your tastebuds into submission, and is probably not for the faint-hearted. I love it, and Iím gonna buy another tomorrow, but it is probably better that it is a seasonal release.

Great nose after pour. Lots of fruit and grass-y/hemp-y. Palate is a bit watery, very planty (hemp water...), and turns quite bitter right away with not much else to balance it out. Not bad though and interesting in any case.
