3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Location: 11.2 oz bottle from State Line, 1/31/13, Rating #111 of the Month!
Aroma: The nose is fairly subtle, with some clean pale malts and some citrus hops
Appearance: Pours an unclear orange-amber with a rather large, pillowy, heavily laced, off-white head
Flavor: The taste is a little bit sweet, a little malty, mildly spicy, and with a bit of earthy hop
Palate: The body is light-medium, it has a decent mouthfeel, but a little too much carbonation
I felt like this was a half decent example of a British-style IPA. (Which, if you let him, jcos can go on a 30 minute rant about how it should be it’s own style.) Anyway, back from that digression, there are some good components here, but some flaws too, and it obviously doesn’t have the in-your-face hops that an American IPA fan would prefer in the style. Still though, it is a solid, drinkable beer.

2.6 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Okay foamy head and gold body. Kind of an odd nut and hop aroma that when put together is really off-putting. Like someone just farted in the bathroom. Flavour is balanced between malt and sharp hoppiness, some hazelnut and crunchy chocolate cookie in there. In terms of IPAs it doesn’t go the distance.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. Pale amber color, clear liquid, no head. Sour smell. Malty taste but flat bitterness, too light for IPA. Good, but average.

3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Sampled from a mixed six pack from this brewery- turning out to be one of the best in BZ. This one is a rich reddish colour. Decently floral aroma. Bitter more than floral flavour. Good. Crystal Toffee malt balance.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Poured into a taster showing tea brown and a light webbing of foam on top.
The nose shows a very sweet biscuit maltiness.
The palate is lightly carbonated and light bodied. Very malty but only slightly sweet biscuit flavor. A nice lager-like malty bitterness at the finish. Surprisingly, an IPA made in the traditional style, this isn’t bad. I wouldn’t buy another bottle, but it’s done competently. Probably would have been better on cask.

1.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 4/20
Not really my type of beer, way too bitter. Though I did like how that bitterness coupled with the sort of sour/sweet taste on the tip of your toungue, but that’s a minor plus to a very big negative.
