4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
A Scott an Englishman and an Aussie walks into a bar. Five pints later and a pint of this stuff, they walk out with the Aussie staggering his way to the train station like his been hit with a ten tonne hop flavoured beer bat. An incredible IIPA. In saying that, I did have it a year ago and it did get me roaring drunk so I canít provide the stock standard reviews as per most of the beer snobs on this website. It packs a punch and you really canít tell itís over 10%. Be careful with this one, seriously. It goes down like a session IPA but the next thing you know youíll be seeing gnomes and singing to Joy Division on the floor. Nice one you crazy kiwis!

Very cloudy tan. Aroma is rich w bright citrus, overripe orchard fruits and a bit of chewiness. The taste is quite pronounced chewy, with light orchard fruit accents, a blast of alcohol late. I had hoped that one of New Zealandís pre-eminent brewers would bring some subtlety and class to this style of beer, but alas this has all the subtlety and class of a grindcore band.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Similiar to double trouble, but better. Sweet hops, pine, grapefruit along with a solid malt backbone. I was a little drunk when I finally got to try this so unfortunately I was not able to give this the appreciation it deserves.

This is a near perfect Double IPA (Imperial really at that abv?)... its huge resiny aroma kicks off before you even put the glass near your nose (some hop extract) its beautifully balanced with the sweetness and the huge bitterness, well done. A kiwi triumph.

Tap at the albion newcastle. This was fantastic! It covered the ETOH well, huge hoppy flavour with a great bitterness. This had a huge mouth feel, it is a must for double IPA fans.

On tap at Cookie. Exceptional hop-driven strong ale. Aromas of caramel, grass, liquorice, and honey. Taste is sweet and bitter, with very long length. Palate is creamy, and full bodied. Amber, with a frothy head.

3.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
This beer was a golden colour with a white film of head. The smell is exceptional: lush passionfruit, grapefruit and lemon. It is tropical fruity and enticing. Full mouthfeel and an immediate hit of alcoholic warmth then the tropical fruit comes through. This is a very dangerous beer because one sip invites another. Before long youíre lulled into a fruity false sense of security where you believe that one more pint couldnít hurt. Then all of a sudden you need to go to the toilet and you find that walking is an adventurous idea to say the least.
I like this beer a great deal, but it reinforces my assertion that Imperial brews invite trouble. Why buy one beer at 10.5%abv when you could have three at 4.5%? Never mind. An excellent brew nonetheless.

3.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
UPDATED: JUN 11, 2012 On tap. Great floral hops, passionfruit, pinenut, sweet grassy aroma. Pours golden with white head that fades quickly. Good lacing. Sweet and bitter alcoholic taste. Bitter sweet. Very bitter, solid passionfruit core with golden syrup finish. Citrus and mango but acidic aftertaste. Tuatara?s answer to Radler except for high alcohol %? Is this a beer targeted towards the female population?
