Papsoe (14642), Frederiksberg, Denmark Feb 18, 2008 (Bottle 33 cl) Clear, deep golden with a dense, white head leaving some lacework. Fresh aroma of flowers and a little citrus. Medium in body with a solid and fairly sweet malt base but primarily this is dominated by the great aroma hops. Subdued bitterness. This is almost like fluid candy. 110208 omhper (12155), Stockholm, Sweden Feb 9, 2006 Draught at The Malthouse, Wellington. Clear pale yellow. Dry with plenty of grassy hops. It’s light bodied with gentle rounded mouthfeel. There’s notes of lemon and a bitterness that grows and grows. A true north German style pilsener, that only needs to be more crisp to achieve greatness. JoeMcPhee (4911), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Aug 1, 2005 On tap. Almost colourless beer with a non-existant head. Aroma is decently hoppy (Saaz) but very low on the malt side. A bit citrusy aroma as well. Decently hoppy flavour with some light spiciness and a bit of pale malt. Slight appley flavour. motelpogo (4394), Plzen, Czech Republic Jan 13, 2004 just i was thinking i hated nz hops, i tasted them in a beer where they actually worked. amazing aroma of passionfruit and taste of passionfruit seeds. some creeping bitterness. soft and subtle, a few other flavours appear on the periphery - applesauce, mango icecream. a real delight DuffMan (2723), the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, Canada Mar 29, 2009 Enjoyed over a fantastic meal at Two Chefs in Dunedin with my wife. Bright clear golden, nice carbonation, big white bubbly head leaving long lacy strands. Grassy, floral, slightly skunky, lovely euro hop aroma. Clean pale malts, slightly sweet, slightly lemony, with a nice crisp bitter hop finish. A true pilsner. bluevegie (2169), Perth, Australia Aug 24, 2009 Nice, clear, golden body with lasting white head that left lacing down the glass, probably the best feature. Grainy malty taste, a touch on the sweet side, some hops on the nose though not enough same with the taste. TheGrandMaster (1848), Auckland, New Zealand Jun 27, 2008 Draught, compliments to the Malthouse (in Wellington), a clear gold with a white head. A light, hardly detectable aroma. A creamy palate which becomes more hoppier and drier through the finish. Sounds like the bottle has much more character. Sully (1367), Woolloomooloo, New South Wales, Australia Oct 31, 2004 My appreciation of Kiwi pilseners is somewhat affected by the brilliance of Emersons. This one is a fine specimen though, and it reminds me more of the Budvar (stick Czechvar up your fundiment A-B) in that I find this softer and more subtle in hop profile. A great looking beer with a typically expected golden hue and clean head. The beer is well balanced and has all of the qualities of a beer that is difficult to get right. NZ water goes a long way to helping with the subtlety and quality of the beer. Ta Beer Ledgend.
