YK23 (253), Haifa, Israel Oct 27, 2007 Bottle: sweet, malty, alcoholic, molasess, brown suger, coffee, roasted malt, caramel, some nuttiness, some bready notes, overall a good beer, a little too alcoholic, bit too sweet but quite rich and satisfaying. dkachur (2318), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Oct 20, 2007 Bottle. Looks like a good grade b maple syrup with a tan head, medium sized. Aroma is a tad mellower and maybe earthier than your typical doppelbock. Almost porter-esque in taste, with coffee, chocolate and maybe some root beer. Nice job. Kinz (2179), Glen Allen, Virginia, USA Oct 16, 2007 Final sample of the day as part of the BJCP training session. Just not my thing, these doppelbocks, for the most part. Deep copper, OK head. Sweet malt aroma, with lightly grassy hops coming through faintly. Flavor matches. BustedFlat (552), Edina, Minnesota, USA Oct 5, 2007 500ml bottle. Mug. Dark with a tan head. Aroma - sweet malt. Taste featured the typical doppelbock elements, sweet malt and caramel with a touch of dark fruit. Not bad. Fin (3382), Merton, Oxfordshire, England Sep 30, 2007 Bottle from BOE 29-09-07 Poured dark amber as description states with a tan head. Aroma not striking but there were some dark molasses. Taste initially was of black treacle and alcohol this tasted a bit rough around the edges some prunes, fine beer but not the best of this style. maniac (2628), Richmond, Virginia, USA Sep 28, 2007 Clear dark ruby body with a medium creamy tan head. Sweet molassas aroma with light toastiness. Sweet molassas flavor with a creamy mouthfeel. SpudClampDawg (1027), Jasper, Indiana, USA Sep 23, 2007 Updated: Sep 24, 2007Translucent deep brown pour with a satisfactory, creamy head. The nose notes white sugar, raisans, plum, brown sugar. The body is full, with lots of residual sugar. Notes of cinnamon, candied plums, dark brown sugar and sugar cookie. I would like to see this attenuated a bit better, as the incredible sweetness makes it difficult to drink a lot of. Still good stuff. RblWthACoz (963), Brooklyn, New York, USA Sep 21, 2007 Pours a clear but very dark ruby with minimal head. Nose is sickly sweet with a strong caramelized sugar with extremely heavy malt tones. Flavor is smooth and deep. Wood tones. Malt tones. Strong sugar present. Feel is nearing syrupy. Definitely drinkable. Leaves an almost smoked flavor on the aftertaste.
